I think this is well deserved for a World Series hero like Konerko.

Would like to be clear that YOU BRick is the first person to claim Konerko used the juice?

I don't know if I'm the first but I certainly think he did.

That is twice you have given me kudos in this thread, bigfan. I'm glad you are starting to come around to seeing things the right way. Thanks!

BC and RPB, good points. I think you could make a case Konerko is top 2 or 3, but let me rephrase by saying 'the second best power hitter in Franchise history'

You cared enough to reply in an entirely different thread.

bigfan is just as concerned with Konerko as he was the LGBT night.

The reference was made in regards to Cubs fans not caring about the protest being upheld. You are correct though, I cared enough about both of your stupid posts, including your "laugh tracks", to comment on it here in this thread. I just thought it was funny that you seemed to "jump all over it" and act like it was a big deal to the Cubs & their fans! Hell, the Cubs front office was pushing for the protest to be upheld. They want the L !!!

I think something that happened in MLB that had not happened for the previous 28 years is worthy of posting about. I'm glad you think I am funny.

Agree on the once in every 28 years thing...but you know that was not your intent when you posted. If it was....why then did you include the

Don't try and spin it now, just own it. It's cool....I understand it's just the Cubs - Sox thing!

Konerko had a better career than Magglio. I'm not sure I would really call Collins and Jackson White Sox. They played half their careers elsewhere. Of course, Jackson is always thought of as a Sox guy because that's the uniform he was wearing when he threw the World Series. Appling would be the guy in the argument.

dig up collins' corpse, let him go 0-800 to match Konerko's plate appearances with the Sox and he's still 100X the player.

Sox WAR:
Collins 67
Konerko 30

so at this rate if Konerko plays roughly infinity more years, he'll never catch collins

Psst... Magglio's lifetime offensive WAR was 42.9. Granted a significant number came with the Tigers, but should be included for clarity's sake.

Those numbers are based only on games played with the White Sox... if you include other stats from players with other teams where would Griffey Jr. be with 83.8 total or add in Fisks Boston numbers 65.7 total and Robbie Alomar is 70.0..even Minnie 47.6 and Nellie 36.7 go up Robin ends up at 28.4...Paulie goes down to 34.9 ...yes he was a negative WAR with the Dodgers and Reds. Just for clarity sake of course.

That right there should show you how dumb it is to compare WAR across eras.

what are you talking about? Collins was a top tier elite HOF'er. Konerko was an average 1B, if that.

Psst... nobody thinks Griffey or Alomar is a White Sox player -- why aren't you posting Manny's numbers? You can leave off the very few ABs that Paulie had with other teams or combine them, I don't really care. My reply was mostly in response to who was better, Konerko or Ordonez, and even though Sox fans don't want to hear it, Ordonez was better. For clarity.

Collins played a dozen seasons with the Sox and Konerko 15 and you're really going to tell me that Collins was more than twice as valuable to the team over their respective White Sox careers?

As far as Ordonez is concerned, I can see the argument that he was better than Konerko. I just don't agree with it. Magglio's entire career existed within the steroid era. Its abrupt ending prevented him from having some of the lesser numbers that Konerko is adding at the end of his career in an era of pitching dominance that hasn't been seen since the late 60s.

yes I'm going to tell you that. Konerko's "average season" would place him 16th out of 23th qualifying 1B this year in terms of adjusted runs created. Not surprisingly Collins' "average" season would place him 1st out of 16 qualifiers. which ignores the fact collins was a great defender (and one of the best baserunners of all time).

Without getting into a long debate on "runs created", I'll just say that Collins' best seasons were in Philadelphia.

Well, I think you're overstating it by calling Konerko "average". I'll grant you that most Sox fans probably think of him as better than he was. He had a kind of strange career with some horrible seasons in the middle of his prime. 2003 and 2008 were bad years.

But if we look at the total picture and his place in Sox history, he's probably the third greatest White Sox hitter behind Frank and Appling. And rather than that being a testament to the greatness of Konerko, it's probably more a reflection of the lack of great players one would associate with the White Sox. The Sox have had their share of elite players, but many of them didn't spend long in Chicago. I mean, I think of Dick Allen as a White Sox but I'm not sure the rest of the world, including Allen himself, thinks of him that way.
