I've never seen a guy who makes one of the coolest jobs so miserable and painstaking.

DAN. LIGHTEN. UP. IT'S. SPORTS! IT'S. SPORTS!

Enjoy life a little - it's too short.

That's the problem. It's sports and Dan has simply evolved beyond sports. He's a social crusader now taking on the important issues with a hard hitting approach.

Rooting for teams in general would be strictly banned. As would sports jerseys for fans. And chanting. Fans are to sit quietly, hands folded, during any and all sporting events. Light clapping will be allowed. The dress code is formal.

Fans simply aren't allowed. A forensic analysis of each game--played at an undisclosed indoor location--will be distributed to a certain number of people. Predictions of any kind are strictly prohibited.

It's not really necessary to actually play the game
The statistics will be fed into a computer and the game will be simulated

So we are in agreement... statistics developed by the best actuaries in the world are delivered to a super computer which spits out a WAR for each team. NOT AN ACTUAL WIN/LOSS RECORD... we all know that doesn't tell you anything.

Then a group of super-intelligent doctors will analyze the WAR results and distribute results to local governments, who will let their citizens know if it was a good or bad outcome for them individually. The citizens should sit in silence while contemplating the results. No one wins or loses because it doesn't matter anyway.

Somebody should tell Biernstien that the player in MLB with the best WAR, according to FanGraphs, is Alex Gordon.

There was a commercial some time ago, couldn't tell you what it was for, but it was in an all-white, post modern type room that was overtly, sarcastically minimalist and at one point a kid with something like a recorder in his hand points it at a really small TV and simply says 'sport', some soccer match or something comes on, and he starts noodling around on the recorder.

When professor Bernstein gets really, really, really rolling, that's what I picture his evenings at home are like.

I've posted for years that Dan's dream job is to be his generation's Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes. He hates his job, but likes the paychecks. Remember when Garry Meier bailed on Roe Conn, Dan's name was one that was mentioned to replace him. As Howard Cosell once referred to it, Dan thinks he's working in the toy department.

Spot on. Mike Wallace is exactly who he wishes he was.

The NBA should be there by 2016.

That's an insult to the Wallace legacy. Can you picture Dan riding on the back of Pavarotti's scooter without a helmet? Never happen.

Advanced analysis has let us know that corner outfielders with 15 home run power are the key to winning baseball. We need to go back and examine the numbers to make sure Harry Hooper wasn't better than Babe Ruth.

Actually, I do agree. Not because of the color of her skin or the fact it's a girl, but because it's silly. This girl has no future in MLB. She may be really good for a 12 year old and from 46 feet, throw the equivalent of 90 MPH (based on the time the batter has to react to the pitch from the shorter distance). But there is this thing called puberty that takes place. Afterwards, boys produce testosterone and get bigger, faster, stronger and it allows them to ACTUALLY throw 90 plus MPH, for those genetically privileged enough. No girl will EVER do that. No girl will ever play in MLB, nor any other major sport, where they would have to compete with men. Bernstein (a guy I do not care for) is right....it belongs in Faces in the crowd. Children and their accomplishments should be something they should enjoy with their families. But their exploits are not worthy of the national attention it is getting. I know the ratings (especially locally) show this is of interest to lots of people, but it's like when Full House became the Olsen twins show, it's pandering to the masses with children. Maybe they should try puppy Baseball next.

he doesn't call into shows to be controversial. that would be too controversial to say. that's the type of thing that gets you suspended for a week or two.

Hey guys... how are you? Thanks for taking my call. I was just thinking last night, and I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but the Bears run defense hasn't looked as good as it has in the past. I'll hang up and listen to what you guys think.

The actual question would be about 45 seconds of rambling, before he gets to his completely obvious point.

I realize that it is fashionable to bash Elmhurst Steve. I agree, however, with his main point that the amount of attention paid to this little league baseball is silly.

Also, I am not sure why it would be controversial to conclude that woman cannot compete with men on the professional level. I think that is pretty obvious.

Is anyone making this argument though? Jesus, just let it be what it is, a cool story that kills that unbearable time before football season starts.

For as many people around here that rip Bernstein there are sure a whole hell of a lot of folks that have just as miserable a worldview as he does.
