RPB I was hoping to have more than an extreme version of Dunn at the top of our lineup. My fear is pitchers will eventually figure out how to take advantage of him and we'll be talking about this decade's version of Korey Paterson.

As you wrote in a later post, its not like Dunn because he's a second baseman

Its more like Uggla, which was all star level.

Funny I thought this on way home. With all the depth they are supposed to have get an ace out of someone.

Other teams will have to believe he's going to be a star. A 2nd baseman that can hit 35 home runs is very valuable. Even if he may strikeout 275 times.

Samardzija garnered one prospect equal to or better than Baez in addition to other lesser but legit prospects (difficult to calculate exactly because of Hammel). A Samardzija level player is what you can expect in return if you put Baez on the market and even that might not be enough.

But don't worry Epstein and his minions swear there is an abundance of great pitching available across MLB right now.

Well, since they already have a dominant 1-2...

not sure if you're kidding, but you can't base future trades off of an Oakland A's trade. They don't exactly follow the trend.

I'll take that. I like them better when someone is on base.

He has more strikeouts than he has HR, RBI, runs and walks combined. Not good.

Patience (ironically) will be required with Baez for sure

Look at Castro and Rizzo

He's been in the big leagues since August 5th? I'm willing to give him a little more time than just over 2 weeks.

I think Baez is going to be trade bait. Something tells me the Cubs want him to produce immediately.

You are getting that. Ryno started 1-32.

If he's going to be say a .240, 25 plus HR 200 plus strikeout guy would you be happy with that?

No. I would want more but I understand there is value for something like that at 2nd base.

The strikeouts will come down after a year or two in the majors. Maybe not by much...but they will.

Give MLB a full offseason of watching tape on Baez. Then see next year.

Correct. This as well.

But tape does nothing for patience. At this point, Baez needs to stay off of face high fastballs. When he learns to do that, pitchers will adjust. And then he has to re-adjust.

Adjustments in baseball are just as important as any skill or athleticism.

Baez will benefit more from seeing pitchers and a couple rotations through the league than the other way around.

You think so? He's going to need to be patient at the plate. He's been unable to do that at any level. I hope you're right.

You guys will love 41 homers and cry every time he strikes out in the 9th with 2 outs and men on 2-3 down a couple runs.

6 Homers in 18 games now. Extrapolate the numbers to a full season and it works out to over 50 homers.

Yeah, and 19,500 strike outs. I hope the kid learns how to hit and not just hope his bat hits the ball.

Don't worry I am sure Steve extrapolated that the savior plays all 162 games.

Well, we can all extrapolate that Steve's a penis. I just hope Baez can learn to hit, not just swing really hard and hope.

Nope. If he hits a homer in 1/3 of the games he plays in, that means he only need play 150 games to reach 50 homers. Try again...
