Baez HR on friday was an off speed pitch that he waited back on and just crushed it on to Waveland. 410 FT.

90% of the pitches thrown to him are off speed and high fast balls now, which is perfect as thats what he needs to learn what to hit.

Not sure if it was right before the HR, but on a 3-2 count they through him 3 fast balls to strike him out 96,97,96 and he fouled all 3 straight back.

He knows the off speed stuff is coming now and is really learning how to hit that stuff and you can see the power is there, even on off speed stuff.

You think so? He's going to need to be patient at the plate. He's been unable to do that at any level. I hope you're right.

Very inaccurate statement.

At every level he has been slow to start, he didnt take pitches, then he started taking pitches....then hitting singles to oppo field and then HR's...

Every level he has been at , has been the same story. Starts slow, strikes out, doesnt take pitches, swings at crap, chases. Then waits, becomes patient, pitches come to him and his numbers rise.

Now he needs to do that here...........

I think I can safely say that every single MLB team would be happy to have him at this point and let him get better.

Baez has 7 HR, 8 singles, and 2 doubles.

So he is Adam Dunn if he could play a position?

If he was Adam Dunn he would have 100$ mill in the bank and weigh 300 pounds!

Oh and he can field. Looked more comfortable at SS then he does at 2B. Which should surprise nobody

I think a 40 HR shortstop would be pretty good trade bait even if he only hits .220.

He'll hit better than that, though. I hope they keep him.

What do you do with Russell and Castro?

Bryant to RF
Baez to 3b
Russell at SS

Trade Castro's friendly contract for pitching.

Baez stays at 2B even though he looks more comfort at SS, because Addison Russell is the best SS of them all. When he is ready, Castro moves to 3B. Bryant moves to a corner outfield position. Around this time next year, all these things could be in place.

Baez is a waste at 2B long term.

If they're going with that plan, put Castro at 2B.

Baez at third and Castro at 2B makes more sense, yes.

Then Baez would have to go to 3rd, because Russell is the best defensive SS. Baez has done a nice job at both SS and 2B and having both Baez and Castro switch positions makes less sense than just having Casto move over to 3rd. We know Baez can handle the pivot at second from the 2B position already and I think Castro has the better arm, so having him at 3rd makes more sense.

If you read the post right before yours, I had Baez at 3B, Bryant in RF and Russell at SS. Trading Castro.

I think Baez looks to have the stronger arm. Castro looks more nimble to handle 2B.

It might not be the Cubs choice. The other team might have a preference of Castro or Baez or even Russell and they have to work with that.

Pretty satisfied with Baez so far. Can see why people are excited. Hope he can start becoming a more complete hitter obviously

When Bryant and Soler make it up.....it's going to get pretty fun. Then add Russell, a couple free agent pitchers and finally Almora...Ohhhh, it's going to be sweet.

You realize the Cubs will be lucky if just one of those guys ends up being good right? Or even plays up to his potential ? The rest could be .240 hitters . It's highly doubtful they all become solid major league contributors . Id pump the brakes a bit .

I would bet you a thousand dollars that Bryant hits at least 25 homers and knocks in at least 90 runs in 2015 or 2016 at the major league level. I think his numbers will be considerably better, but I see that as his basement.

And if he strikes out 200 times and hits .235 to go with it it's not much better than Adam Dunn. Throw in Baez 200 plus strike outs and that's a lot of suck going around Wrigley.

I'm talking about BRYANT, not Baez. Bryant will hit for a higher average and strike out FAR less than Baez. Baez has great power and should make adjustments to the pitchers at the major league level and lay off the chest high fastballs he seems to find irresistible too often now. Bryant is a much more disciplined hitter.

I doubt Bryant will be have the career for the Cubs that Aramis Ramirez did and a lot of people thought Ramirez was a piece of garbage .

People were frustrated because he didn't start playing until late May or early June.

I'll hazard a guess that Ramirez' avg season for the Cubs was something like .285 25HR 90 RBI. Bryant will be lucky to equal that.
