Similar tracks Pirates plan and Cubs plan a couple years apart. Pedro Alvarez throws balls from 3rd to 1st base dugout as well as hits 220 for his 20 homers. Polanco who is their promised one was sent down yesterday due to 0-30 slump. It doesn't always work as "planned".

Yep but some dopes are convinced that these guys coming up are destined for greatness when there's a absolutely nothing to base that on. What's Bryce Harper doing this year? Jason Heyward for his career?

Ramirez had some good seasons as a Cub. Bryant will be better.

I'll hazard a guess that Ramirez' avg season for the Cubs was something like .285 25HR 90 RBI. Bryant will be lucky to equal that.

It was actually .295 30HR 100RBI.

If every season started about May 20th Ramirez would be a HoF player. If Bryant is better than him we will have a special team for the next 15 years.

Using the Pirates as an example is really dumb. They made the playoffs last year and are in the hunt this year.

Heyward is a good player. Not the perennial MVP candidate but an above average player nonetheless.

Kirkwood you missed the point. Prior to last year the Pirates were working "plans" for 18 years. Like the Royals. Also, I was talking specifically about cant miss prospects regressing after a hot start.

Well, first of all the numbers are wrong. In 9 full seasons with the Cubs, Aramis hit 219 Hr's and amassed 767 RBI's. Those totals average out to 24.3 homers per season and 85.2 RBI per season. Do I expect Bryant to top those numbers? Absolutely!

So now that the numbers NAS represented as Ramirez' average years are proven to be way off, nobody has squat to say? NAS, did you think that crap was just gonna get a pass? Did you think everyone was just going to take your word? You should know I wouldn't. 24/85 is a way off from 30/100. I expect Bryant to top 30/100, but I am very confident he will top 24/85.

Ramirez played 7 full seasons (123+ games) with the Cubs. He played in 80 games 1 season and 60 games the season he was traded here. In his 7 full seasons (123+ games) he hit 209 home runs. That's an average of 30 home runs a year. In those 7 full seasons he had 702 RBI. That's an average of 100 RBI a season. If you add his numbers together from his 2 partial seasons he still has 30 home runs and over 100 RBI. In his 4,232 plate appearances (in a Cubs uniform) he hit a few ticks above .294.

I do not expect Bryant to be better but I would LOVE if he were.

Ramirez is criminally underrated by Cub fans

Rogue while you're right about expectations and busted prospects there's no harm in being excited about prospects. Steve gone too far but at the same time, we are all fans. Nit scouts or paid analysts. A little hype is ok. A lot if hype s fine too, who really cares?

I love you all very much

Cubs fans remember a lot of bad April's and May's. It felt like Ramirez showed up when the season was already over. His splits prove it. He was a HoF player from late May until September.

Thats why I chose him because I knew his stats with the Cubs were pretty good . Bryant would have to have a great career to even equal a guys who many people think wasn't all that good .

What a fucking clown  ....you want to dismiss the seasons where he had injuries and performed at a lower level as a result of them. Doesn't work that way. You have to take ALL the seasons and average out the numbers 24/85 is the result.

Ramirez was/is a good player. He's a multi-year All-Star. In fact, I believe he was an All-Star again this year. But Bryant will be better. He's the real deal...an MVP candidate within a couple years. He will have a HUGE impact on the team.

That's overstating it quite a bit in my opinion.

He was very good in 04, 07, and 08 right out of the gate and for his career he hits 260 in Apr and .270 in May. Not his best months (although he was pretty great in those years I listed) but not bad either.

And then you have people extrapolating the already exaggerated slow starts into his whole career and deeming him a guy who just racked stats on bad teams.

Also without looking I'd guess his Apr may numbers are probably better than Ryno

I agree completely with your thoughts in this thread if I'm betting life and death amounts. But I'm just a fan hoping to see a title before I die

Ramirez was the best third bagger the Cubs had in over 40 years.

 Are you upset that your made up numbers were off? You realize I posted a link so everyone can see for themselves? In his 63 games after the trade, he hit 15 home runs and had 39 RBI. In his 80 game season (cut short by injury) he hit 15 home runs and had 65 RBI and hit .317.

He has like .330 average the rest of the way. Once the weather heated up he was a GREAT hitter. When you saw that you wondered why he couldn't do the same in April and May. I was a fan and love his consistency. Bryant would need to be very close to Frank Thomas to top Ramirez.

We've had some awful 3rd basemen. Kevin Orie still should be shot.
