But that can be said for most double albums.

Perhaps, but, Physical Graffiti says, NO.

There's some filler on there. Maybe not as much, but it's there. Zeppelin I is a fucking statement.

I would offer up that Ghost in the Machine is more of a "perfect album" than Synchronicity.

Good call on License. Very good. Not sure I'd give it perfect but Damn fine nomination.

I'll stay within the prog-rock/metal genre:

Gotta second the Mindcrime nomination.

Genesis Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound
Rush Hemispheres
Seventh Wonder Mercy Falls
Marillion Misplaced Childhood

You know, it's almost a more compelling discussion to talk about albums that are so close to perfection but for one fatal flaw or two. For instance, Funeral by the Arcade Fire would be a perfect album if it didn't have that "Haiti" clanger on it, but it's still a fascinating piece of work. What if Summerteeth had a proper ending and not this wishy-washy bonus-track ending where you don't know when to really say it's over? Does "Candyfloss" count? DOES IT?

Yeah, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road would've been close to perfect with a little trimming.

If one is gonna do the perfect Rush album, it is Moving Pictures, cliche as that may be.

Don't even approach the bench with 2112, either.

Oh, and if I can get confirmation that Summerteeth is meant to end with "In a Future Age," then Summerteeth. (Suck it, spanky.)

How about 1984? That was a fantastic album, maybe it's downside was the synthy jump but very very good.

My husband and I were just talking about how License to ill had a lot of our favorite BB songs. It is a good one.
George Michael Faith

Hysteria has a couple songs that are too similar but I loved it too.

You know, I've heard a lot of critics say that Blood on the Tracks was really like Dylan's Blood on the Tracks.

I'm sorry. I've been telling that joke for years and no one has had the heart to tell me to stop yet.

I love Carole King. I once had a dream that I was the love child of she and Levon Helm. Instead I was born to Frank and Estelle Costanza.

I thought about Extreme's III Sides to Every Story for a minute, but a couple of the early tracks aren't strong enough.

Haha, I crossed my wires for a second and thought you were talking about synths being the downside of 1999 and I was like "how is that even possible?!?" Then I realized you were talking about a Van Halen album and said their best song ever was the album's downside and then I was really like "how is that even possible?!?"

I'd go with Van Halen's debut over 1984, just because it was the introduction of EVH to the world.

I'll give you Side 1 (Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, Limelight)...doesn't get any better. Side 2 not nearly as good.

...OK, then in return I'll give you side 2 of Hemispheres (Circumstances/Trees/Strangiato). Gotta say La Villa is my favorite Rush instrumental.
