America has to be about 22 years old.

The White Sox are also the more popular team in the city proper (incoming butthurt from Cubs Nation), and the city might actually grow this go around on the census.

2010 Census
Chicagoland: 9.68M
Chicago: 2.7M
ex-Chicago: 6.98M

What slice do you think Sox own of $2.7M? How about what slice of 6.98M? Just wondering. You appear to have some inside info.

I think Chicago is closer to 3m or even 3.5m than 2.7m. A lot of young people and immigrants go unnoticed by the census because they have irregular living situations. Of the city, I'd say they have something like 40%, Cubs 35% and the rest is other. That's just my informal opinion, but there's proof Chicago and Cook County (5m people census) are White Sox territory.

And neither are the Sox.

Such an adult conversation here! Great work as usual, bigfan!

The Sox are pretty valuable, and have some pretty good growth potential too. They'll fetch a pretty high price.

You only have to look at teams like the Clippers and Mets to see that there is still a lot of value in being the second most popular team in a really big city.

JR plays chess while everyone else is playing checkers. First, he funds a coup in Cuba to topple a regime that is already on its last legs. He then uses he ties in US, state and city government to promote a new capitalistic market. This creates a situation similar to that in Russia where billionaires spring up overnight. Now, he has already familiarized Cuba with the White Sox brand by fielding so many of their countryman in the last five years. The Sox are, essentially, Cuba's team in a baseball mad country. One of the new billionaires will want an MLB team in Cuba at any cost and the White Sox are not only popular with the locals but just happen to be for sale.

Jerry wins. Jerry always wins.

I would root for the Cuban White Sox.

That would be pretty cool.

But it seems like attendance is going down and down.

5 years? Jerry could be out of time by then. He loses that battle.

relative to other ML teams, nothing special. Guessing $600-700 mill and one of those things that makes them appealing is the sweetheart deal from the state. Now, I guess Jerry could make a run at a 99 year lease for a new owner, but at this point, in 4 years, that deal needs to be redone again.

Even if that is taken care of...I agree with the Potential statement....but potential isnt paid for.

If Jerry tried to tell me all the things that could be done, I would honestly ask him why he didnt do it? He owned them for 35 years and had every tool at his disposal and still didnt.

The window was missed. A new park in the South Loop.

I would probably be on board with bigfan's Vegas plan. I would go out for a long weekend each year during their down season. I'm sure they'd put together some great, cheap deals

Its too bad bigfan is the only one else on board with the Sox moving to Vegas plan. He's only been posting about it for about 5 years now.
