Seems kind of insensitive.

It's a reference to a McDoink screw up. It's also Solar Homo.

I assumed it was a Jorge Soler reference.

It is Jorge Soler Day.

Yea it's going to be confusing.

Leery is mad that that JRW was used by the politicans? What the fuck did this cost the city? Then goes on to talk about comic books....a grown man talking comics I don't want to hear it! What did he take bereavement leave when Archie was killed?

bahahaha.

Did you hear him excitedly telling Dan about the Multiverse? It sounded like a little kid rambling to his dad, which in a sense, it kinda was.

And here I thought the Multiverse was just that place where our former posters ended up.

I don't think bernstein realizes how condescending it sounds when he talks about black people "getting out" of the neighborhoods they come from. Did it never occur to him that there might be a lot of people who aren't interested in "getting out" and would like to do their best to improve where they already are? I suppose it's just easier to keep whining about "Derrick" and "the idiots he has surrounded himself with".

And then when the black guy who is actually from JRW calls in, Larry is going to tell him how he should feel.

And Larry has some nerve talking about how he is "really, really bothered by the people trying to take credit for JRW's success."

Jerry. Reinsdorf. Is. Not. Cheap. Saying such things is dangerous and reinforces stereotypes...

... Now, back to the Derrick Rose thing. Does he even realize that the Bulls organization got him out of the ghetto? He owes everything to them.

This pernicious myth! No, not the one about the blood, the one about Tim Thomas's expiring contract!

I tuned in for the announcement. Larry is just the worst thing the radio has ever encountered. Literally.

The nice ball washing that Bernstein did of both station management and Patrick was nauseating. I have ZERO doubt that he'd be snarkily commenting about "putting the long snapper as your midday guy, ooooooooooooooooooohK" if the Booyas had done it. I'm not expecting him to break bad on a new teammate, and I know he's proud of his ability to bend over for sponsors/the nipple, but holy smokes do I not need the over-the-top reacharound of Patrick, on-air, and worse I don't need to hear how meatpants is some sort of hero for enduring the past few months. Leeeeery actually said that he probably deserves a few more weeks off for what he went through (after Dan got done rehashing the same tired rub and tug he gave Grimmace a couple of weeks ago).

Patrick might be fine - I'll never know, as I cannot stand that fatman. It's stunning to me that "the" Chicago sports radio station has a guy like on their middays...and an absolute clown like Larry on at night. STUNNING.

As I am incredible at avoiding Larry at all costs, I never hear him with Dyaaaaan that often....as I listened to a portion of the segment with Patrick, I wondered what he would sound like (both on his daily show and life in general) if he were not allowed to hear what Bernstein had said that day. Like he had to go on the air, at 6pm, with ZERO idea what Dyaaaaaaaaaaaan talked about - what his angle was on a new hot topic - and what important sports topic he was currently beating into the ground (so as to become a beacon for the masses)? What would he do? At this point I'm guessing that he'd be able to nail Dan's opinion on things fairly easily, but it would be interesting to hear what screeching nonsense would come out of his mouth after, say, a month of not being able to hear what Dyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan's opinions were....something tells me he'd have a veeeery hard time of it.

Anyway, color me completely nonplussed by the big announcement - fantastic that the news about the 9-1 show was revealed at 3pm because, well, the other half of that show has a sterling record of disinterest and inability to seize opportunities when crammed into gaping pie hole.

Danny's racism was on full display today. Leery was talking about some back-up QB from Cornell getting cut on Hard Knocks and how hard it must be for someone who has been a "star" at every level to be told "you're not good enough to play on our team". Danny thought it was interesting that he would choose someone from an Ivy League school to feel bad about because he clearly has other options to get a "real job and make something of his life", whereas some "others" have the NFL as their only shot to make something out of their lives. He did qualify his comment by saying "I'm not generalizing".

Feel like I'm asking the obvious, but is this just him positioning himself to take over for Terry when the time is right?

He needs to stutter and stammer a little more.

Mannelly seems innocuous enough. That "Mr. [First name] vs. [Last name]" talk was riveting.

He really is an ass. All these guys are "pro" athletes or prospects and so on. Not to be considered at all are their feelings. Regardless of upbringing is the son/father or son/coach or whatever dream any less valuable to work for something?

dan has this strange paternalistic attitude toward black people. Like yesterday when a guy from the JRW league called in and said that he liked Rahm because Rahm had donated money personally and also helped get the funds to re-do the park. And li'l danny then lectured the guy on how Rahm's motives were somehow less than pure. As if the guy was a fucking idiot. Of course Rahm does what he does for votes. That's how it works. We vote for you and you get shit for us which is why we voted for you and why you gave us the stuff. It's not complex. danny then completed his own WYC by tossing a little love letter to his own alderman, Ameya Pawar, a guy who supported subsidized housing on the old Illinois Battery site until the locals started howling.
