Saw episode one of Rectify last night. One scene really annoyed me. The guy was in prison for 20 years and when he gets out he tells his kid brother that he wants to catch up on movies. So the kid brings him "Dazed and Confused" as his first movie to watch. Now, nothing against that movie, I would say definitely watch it if you hadn't, its great. But, in terms of the first movie you watch after 20 years??? Its not even in the top 50-100.

So it got me thinking...lets say your best bud with identical taste as you gets out of jail where he had been since 1994. He wants to catch up on movies. What are the top 10 movies you recommend for him to watch, doesn't have to be in order, just list 10.

Would you stay away from prison movies such as Shawshank? Too soon?

would you load up on comedies? Stay away from dark violent movies?

I'll do my list later, needs some thought. Off the top of my head I would definitely include Forest Gump. 1994 movie, focuses on historical events prior to that covering a time that your buddy would still consider the history he is most familiar with.
