Cool, it'll make up for striking out 6 of the next 7 times up.

JUST MISSED a 3 run homer against Chapman in the 9th. Chapman's reaction was classic. He thought he gave up the go-ahead homer, but instead escaped with the save.

Yeah I thought he got it when it left the bat.

Where does Fangraphs put the "just missed" stat?

In the Hawk Harrelson section.

That is so funny though. No doubt Bernsie will talk about the just missed. No one will call and ask how that is quantified in three weeks.

Abreu would have barely gotten it over the wall

If Baez can hit .250/.330 with 180 K's and 30 HR's, I would call that a success. I think he is capable of those numbers. The Cubs brought him up basically expecting him to suck the rest of the year with the hopes he will "figure it out" by the start of next season.

This is another aspect of The Plan that seems to be different than with call-ups from previous regimes. We're being told that we should expect Alcantara and Baez to "suck" (and they have) for a while until they "figure it out." I don't recall those low expectations for Patterson, Pie, Prior, etc or even Castro for that matter. I think there is always the expectation/hope that a minor leaguer will improve over time, but the Really.Smart.People seem to be going overboard in tempering our expectations.
That's a good point. I'm more of the mind that if just one of these guys becomesban impact player and 1 or 2 more become serviceable mlb players that the Cubs will be lucky. They ain't all gonna hit big I know that much.

The fact that Cub fans had unrealistic expectations in previous years doesnt mean its prudent now. Prior was an exception. He was a freak. Maybe Bryant gets that treatment.

But most players, even the highly ranked prospects, struggle in MLB at first. There's a reason people go nuts when an Albert Pujols comes along and dominates immediately....it's because its rare.

Baez will struggle and he will stirke out a lot. This is not news. If he finds a way to hit .260 to go along with the power, then he'll be fine.

I dont agree with America but love his passion!

If anything, that was a pop-fly that carried. I listened to the early part of the game on the radio and Pat and the Coom-Dog were marveling how much the ball was carrying. Then later, when the ball hit Baez's bat, I thought it was a routine out...but I agree Chapman seemed to think it was gone. He seems to be having some confidence issues since that 4-walks-in-a-row meltdown in Colorado.

I disagree. It definitely carried but he hit it hard and it wasnt really a pop fly

With that said, he is currenlty hitting .189 and committed his 5th error today

Gonna have to be very patient with this guy

Good to see him improve against a AAA pitcher. Still 0-4 but only 2 K's. Good for him.

I agree. He has far too much upside to give up on him quickly. I just want to see progress and I think we will. It's going to be a bumpy road. If he becomes a solid infielder, whichever position he ends up playing and gives you some pop, you can live with the shortcomings.

No particular person but these prospects have been sold as saviors. Not serviceable players. Blame Bernsie and the like. I have heard about this for two years. No excuse for .220 avg.

As has been pointed out numerous times around here, Bernise and the media do not speak for Cub fans. You guys read and hear things that they say and lay it on all of us, and then you talk around here like all of us Cub fans here are making these amazing predictions for these prospects.

Most of us are hopeful that a couple of them will turn into something special, but we also understand reality that it is possible all of them bomb.

Baez goes yard in back to back games! It would be nice to see him making the adjustments to major league pitching that he made at the levels he passed on the way up, before the year ends. Hopefully, these last couple games are an indication that he's starting to do that. My God, that homer against the Pirates last night got into the bleachers in a hurry.
