I can't really defend the Bob in Niles segment as I agree it's become quite uncomfortable. Saying that I am a fan doesn't mean I support everything they say or do. I actually agree with many of the thoughts expressed here. I just feel it's gone overboard and the endless bashing extends well beyond substantive points and veers into petty bitching and nitpicking on a daily basis.

I feel a bit like these holier-than-thou "I won't ever use the Redskins name again" people. After years and years and years of saying it, consuming games played by the team that is called Redskins, and otherwise just funneling my money (both directly and indirectly) into the NFL's coffers....I am now suddenly outraged by the name, disgusted by those that don't understand why, and need something done about it IMMEDIATELY.

This bit has always bothered me - I really can't recall if I ever even found it to be amusing/sweet/whatever, I think (at most) that I found it off-putting that these guys were actively producing segments around Bob. I've posted here about it before - I've had my family listen to it, to see if I was just overreacting - but I continued to (sometimes angrily) listen to the show. I'd be a great candidate for Who Ya Crappin?

All that said, it's become painfully clear that Dan/Terry/show staff/station mgt have not tired of this or done anything to put an end to it - I think part of me was assuming that they eventually would just quietly bullet the segment. Much like the Count Fagula and Gay drops, they would just go away - perhaps during an Ask Us Anything they would mention that Bob was really starting to drift more than they realized, and what they were doing was (at least) bordering on exploitation. BUT NO. This isn't happening on it's own. It takes an idiot that goes by the name HARRY SEAWARD to suddenly get pissed, and for other like-minded folks, to finally burst and start flooding emails/social media/media for it to even be addressed. CRAZY.

I still don't know what happened with Kid Cairo or those other guys, but I'm sure someone like him could (without too much trouble) whip together a nice YouTube mashup video where still of Bob are shown as audio of the most cringeworthy moments are played in the background. Send it to Dan. Ask him if that's funny? Should this be used as weekly comedy fodder for anything, let alone a big time radio station in Chicago?

This may sound dramatic, but I feel guilty about not trying to do something sooner -- if anything, I've learned that there are a lot of tone deaf/soulless people at that station, and that the "longest running sports radio show in Chicago" certainly doesn't really have as big of an impact on the cultural landscape as Dan has somehow been conned into thinking it does - if it actually were a big deal, how many advocacy groups would have been alerted?

And to add in, Bob from Niles has a twitter account; it may be done by the show producers, but it has pictures/comments on the station, etc.

Past email to station management expressing my disapproval, repeated texts to the show addressing their insensitivity. Reflexive PTFB with any segment involving the elderly, and a whole lot less listening in general.

Put together an online petition, I'll sign.

Outside of the podcast mysteriously missing Bob's latest segment, have we heard/seen any actual recognition of them knowing this is a problem yet? Has anyone actually heard back from station mgt?

This is usually a Friday bit, right? Be interesting, if nothing is acknowledged, if Bob goes missing this Friday.....if anything, regular season NFL starting gives them a good "excuse" as to why he might not be calling in.

I've read through the first couple pages (most recent) of tweets from @bob_from_niles, and it's gross. I also checked his mentions, and the amount of sycophants out there engaging "Bob" is disgusting. I feel really bad for only being grossed out by this, yet doing nothing, I cannot believe that people are actively engaging (including other station personnel) whatever sick F it is that is running that Twitter. Something tells me it's the same basement dweller as Ramblin' Grimmace.

Mitch so far has ignored my tweet to him about it.

There's no way Bob operates his own Twitter Account. He hasn't even grasped "pie scoring" yet.

I'm used to the podcasts being such a clown shoes operation that I don't really know, but does that happen a lot? There's usually 35-39 mins per hour, right? How often does one get snipped in half like this? It could just be a coincidental f-up, but with all the other hours AND properly marked interview segments, being in the feed - well, it seems that maybe the initial emails/tweets might have at resulted in a "don't put that in there until we have a chance to re-listen" or, maybe just maybe, someone was listening (that possessed a soul) and realized how truly awful this one was (although I'd argue that there have been FAR worse appearances than this one).

That's very strange that Mitch, at least it appears, to be responsive via email and so far has not replied to anyone? I checked his twitter, and it appears that he has been busy retweeting sycophantic kudos about the last edition of Hit & Run for the year -- I actually caught the end of the show, today, and them saying how much they appreciate their listenership (after giggling at callers, and mockingly asking for people to call in with really insightful baseball thoughts) is about as palatable as Bernstein claiming how much he appreciates the people that listen to his show.

In this day and age it's astounding how cats like Bernstein, and I guess Mitch, can form a bubble around themselves and only allow in absolute taintlickers like Schmutzie. That seems like an awful way to live, and an insane way of doing your job. Not being able to sort past the true trolls to accept/digest real criticism is insanely lazy and arrogant.

And, YES, EVERYTHING else is there (including broken out files for the interviews).

And, YES, it's clearly not Bob Tweeting - it's one of the core dozen B&B ball polishers posing as Bob, "hilariously" closing out most tweets with "I dunno".

They definitely removed the Bob from Niles part of the podcast for a reason. I'm not saying the reason was us, but someone heard it and nixed putting it online at the very least. That would be a huge coincidence.

*If* the complaints are enough to force Dan to stop doing the Bob from Niles segments, I would not be surprised if he throws Bob under the bus and says his ugly and unfortunate comments about gay marriage were the reason and not because the premise of the segment itself was distasteful.
