People are not overreacting to the preseason. People overreacted to what happened in the offseason. There was no reason for it.

They are probably worse or equal in every facet from last year besides the defensive line and even that seems to rely on Allen being an upgrade over the previous old guy.

You are getting your talking points from Mulligan.

Barometer games

Vs Buffalo - They need to be dominant
@San Fran - The need to not get their doors blown off
@New England - Pre bye, they can lose but not blown out
@Green Bay - Post bye, don't get clowned. Can Cutler (assuming he's not injured) be good against a team he struggles?

Besides the DL??? only the worst group on the worst defense in the league last year. The Bears will be around 20th and that will be more than enough to win.

I think the answer is yes... wasn't he good in Week 17 last season? Think he had a 100+ rating.

@SF and @GB are the only two losses I am pretty sure about and even those wouldnt shock me if the Bears won. They will lose a game they had no business losing and win a game like GB or SF that they shoudl have lost.

Emery sent the Packer slayer McCown away. Pouty Pants can't beat the worst 2nd worst d-coordinator in the league.

You are forgetting Shea. Only reason he is still on the team is because he will do anything to knock out Rodgers again. I think this time will be a steel chair to the knees and then a piledriver through the NFL en Espanol announcing desk.

Hearing them giggle like maniacs at Ozzie is VERY reminiscent of the "stupid reporters" laughing like hyenas as press conferences.

Also, hearing them talk to Ozzie with such respect and admiration is akin to their knob slobbering of Hub.....boy o boy does the person being on the phone/in the room with them suddenly change their tone.

Also, caught the tail end of the Bob "highlight" package - what a bunch of twats.

Exactly right. Bowen & Mannelly both said that everyone is over reacting & that the Bears are still talented & will be fine. They are correct.

All they have to do is stay somewhat healthy and the rest of the defense is going to be better by default. They were trotting out guys that made Michael Sam look like LT last season. The rest of the unit looked bad because bum RBs were getting 10 yds upfield untouched and with a full head of steam. That is going to make any secondary look like shit.

I don't need more than pre-season to know they're bad. Neither do B&B now, it seems.

Yet you can judge it based on the offseason?

Injuries should be expected especially with the advanced age of important people.

Come on Brick. You're a better sports fan than this. Leave the knee jerk over reactions to the meatballs who always think their team sucks. This is the most talented Bears team in many years.

I mean, if Allen, Briggs, and Tillman all stay healthy maybe they have a chance but I bet at least two of those three miss significant time.

They were so far away from passable that I don't think an improved line fixes much.

Many veterans dont give 100% in exhibition games.

Hilarious.

Boers had them with 12 wins. Bernstein called them a Super Bowl contender.

Then the pre-season came and went, and now both are predicting gloom and doom.

This is the smart station too. I can't imagine with ESPN or The Game is saying.

pretty good show today. Ozzie should have a full time gig with the sox as broadcaster/cheerleader.

Yes, good show. But they wasted 10 minutes of the Hub segment talking about a practice player. Who cares now?

That and Bernsie tried to goad Hub into breaking bad on 49ers. But Hub had it right. Harbaugh said exactly the right thing.

The offense should be better by having a year under this system with new options emerging.

Defensively the scheme sucks. The back 7 won't stop the run and will leave the 15 yard routes open, they will not get off the field on 3rd down. There are at least 2 players (Tillman, McClellin), and thus 3 positions (safety by committee) that they are deficient. This scheme asks Tillman to cover a receiver more than 15 yards downfield. McClellin is just out of position, period. At safety will be a series of weekly gametime decisions. Jared Allen played a dozen snaps this pre-season and thus his inability to stop the run was hidden.

Special teams without a return game means poor field position. Opponents will fear the offense but run the ball to control the clock and keep the offense off the field.

Just listened to the bridge segment and Dan said he's not saying Redskins anymore.

Thank you Dan for proving Ditka's argument.

We need to change the name of the Bears, because it's offensive to Bears that our team is named after them, particularly this year.

the worst part about trestman being from the CFL is that when it came time to come back to the NFL and hire his coaching staff he was "out of the loop" and ended up with absolute shit like mel tucker and joe dicamillis.

i heard somebody on a score radio show with zach get away with saying "you pretty much go and hire joe dicamillis if you want to be bad at special teams" and mel tucker.... yeargh. he took over a jacksonville DEF that managed to hang around 6-10 or whatever and then after a year they dropped like a rock to ~28th. and here we'd be over the moon to see some ~28th ranked defense.

This point is valid. They likely begged Marinelli to stay and he bolted. Trestman isn't bad the change of philosophy was needed, but he just didn't have enough NFL pull to get any guys on board. The defense is not pretty, Emery really didn't think this all through. Now I don't think MT is a bad coach at all but he was as you stated too removed from the NFL. Next hire Bobby McMillen

I feel that if you're in the habit of arguing that language is constantly evolving, citing the "reclamation" of the n-word, then you also have to concede that language has evolved to virtually defang "Redskin" as a racial slur and leaving it only as a vestigial name for a certain football team.

I guess I do not really care about this Redskin thing. Your post Ch made me think though about defanging. Aside from some actual natives being mad (I have no idea) who when their here the Redskins in sports really thinks anything negative?

That's a reasonable point. Especially since "the n-word" is still used as a slur and I've never heard anyone referred to as a "redskin" in anger or otherwise.
