Those numbers are pretty decent as a .733 is slightly above average. But America is holding off on spending in free agency to give Avi an extension after those 85 at-bats

You should talk to your guy. He's been going obessively beserk with another team's prospects.

I'm very open to the idea that Avisail Garcia flops. He's very Gordon Beckham-y at the plate.

That said, leaving a little money on the side in case he figures it out is smart. The Cubs should he doing the same for all their prospects, even if I'm convinced all but 2 or 3 of them are colossal busts.

JR doesn't know how to retain earnings for capex in future years. if there's money left over at the end of the year, it goes to dividends.

I don't understand people worried about Baez. He's a kid who should probably still be in the minors. He has plenty of time to improve. This isn't the player he will be forever.

It's a standard French insult. I'm not sure of the exact translation but it's like asking you if you were dropped on your head as a child. I think it's like "were you rocked too close to the wall?" I only know because my wife is a fluent French speaker and she's said it to me before.

Quebec is worth the drive.

It is very scenic. Old Quebec is also a nice neighborhood for dining.

But the feeling of being an English speaker in Quebec is probably what illegal Mexican immigrants feel like in the U.S. Not only do you not understand anything...but people go out of their way to make sure you know you don't belong and that they don't want you there. Unless you're at a hotel or a restaurant aimed at tourists...they'd rather you GTFO.

At Tim Hortons...while trying to order with bad french and a lot of pointing...a woman literally repeated "Francais?" a few times...then walked away. A Charlevoix location.

My wife says Quebecois isn't really French. She described it as being French to the same degree that what they speak on Swamp People is English. Also they use a lot of English-style sentence structure with regard to subjects and predicates.

Maybe? I don't know it well enough to even judge that. But one of my colleagues that lives in Canada speaks French (or at least the Canadian version of French), so when he was with us communication was okay. He somewhat validated our presence.

He has always started very, very poorly against minor league pitching talent...now he has come up to the major leagues, after 4 years, and shows no signs of life.

What you see is what you get.

What would worry me about Baez is that with how crazy his swing is that he can't really change as a hitter without being completely different. Maybe a normal swinging Baez is going to hit for average but I certainly wouldn't expect him to hit 40 home runs without swinging like the ball slept with his wife.

Well, I suspect they will try something with him like what has worked for Rizzo, i.e. a distinct two-strike approach. Whether he can do anything with it is another matter.

I think its like this.

At each level, Baez has to adjust where he sees the ball vs where it might end up. Each level its more pronounced.

Essentially to be successful he's going to have to learn to lay off pitches that he's swinging at now. He's still adjusting to the insane breaking stuff of MLB pitchers so we'll see

He always had a good eye and took pitches so it's a bit of a different animal anyway.

When Rizzo first came up he had a single approach regardless of count or situation. If you watch him now, when he gets into a two-strike count he chokes up a bit and looks to put the ball in play rather than just cutting loose the way he does in other counts. It's particularly helped him vs. lefthanders.
