Flipped on the show, and Dan was once again thinking out loud that maybe (like with Ditka) we should be careful making fun of Welker - as maybe (beyond the molly) he's showing early symptoms of CTE. Oh, the irony.

Encouraging an old guy to call in, weekly, to "review movies" while they giggle about his confused thoughts and guffaw as he earnestly begs them to come to his place for hot dogs and burgers = ok. Giggling at the behavior of current//former NFL players = proceed with caution.

Trestman's press conference and translation of exchange between reporter asking question about patience and McClellin and Trestman's answer:

R: What are you going to do about the bad players on team if you want to win?

T: It's not my show, but I'm on that show.

I think that they just like the notion that a significant percentage of their listeners represent Bob's mindset.

Someone asked about Bob one day, and they immediately dropped the call. Highly doubt they would put you on the air.

I listened to that too, he made a comment and they dumped him by saying on the one hand they don't know about the screening, but on the other hand just speak your short piece and leave it at that.

No, it will take a clever caller to get them and even then they will either dump you with this bullshit or run in a quick circle with Dan taking some small snippet of what is said and expounding upon it until helper monkey Terry is able to chime in.

Today in my brief listen, I realized how numbers ignorant Bernstein truly is as he spouted off about how someone's walk percentage at approximately 11% (I'm rounding) was significantly better than another player's. Now, off the top I don't really know or care to understand the significance of this one variable in the overall equation of the abilities being cited. Don't know because there is no context presented, and a lack of care because it is being tossed out with the caveat of, "being significantly greater". No, I don't trust someone who tosses out numbers as though he is reading the ingredients to make a tasty Chalupa.

I enjoy reading this board because I don't have to listen as much. And I get amusement from those who see the flaws and fallacies, and those who try to find a way to defend or support what is said. Though lately those attempts seem flagging. His (their) hypocrisy is getting thicker by the day. They want to defend an athlete under the guise of CTE? Okay, but the science of CTE is a comparison with a comparatively normal healthy brain with one that is age afflicted with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Again, they inject youth and occupation (collision sports) as a pretense for concern and alarm, meanwhile at the end of the week they'll talk to someone with CTE symptoms, an elder, and snicker and giggle like the most vile of ignoramuses....

Yeah, you no longer have to pay me to punch them. I just can't wait for them to come out to the southside/south suburbs/Mt. Greenwood area.

I'm not sure there is a hypocrisy if Bob is enjoying himself and the show facilitates that. And I find it odd to compare do not believe the uniqueness of a Gary from Evanston or Bob in Niles to a Welker or Coach.

Its as ridiculous as this Lance Briggs personal day thing. Lance in pads in July is important. Lance in shorts walking through a zone blitz for the 2,000th time...
The standard applies but it doesn't, but it should?

Pardon my French, then you're both part of the fucking problem. As Bernstein you might say, "you can't be this dense, can you? Really?"

NOBODY here has argued that Bob doesn't enjoy and/or rely on calling into the show on a weekly basis - if you're truly dumb enough to look at it as "ahhhh, c'mon, the old guy likes it - he doesn't seem to mind the laughing" then you might as well send away for your B&B ALS windbreaker. Just send a self addressed envelope to Schmutzie, he'll take care of the rest.

Jesus, now I understand why so many people are ok with this bit - child-like rationalization of "Bob likes it = ok to do what they do". Barf.

I'm no fan of the bit to be sure, but I don't think it takes half the insight you claim to possess to realize that instead of calling others names ... others that are far from dense btw ... perhaps it's time for you to play everybody's favorite game, "shit or get off the pot" ... get your letter written - a letter whose purpose of composition is ostensibly to bring about Bob's salvation as quickly as possible - and then actually sent to Mitch, or Rod, or CBS, or Santa Claus, or whoever.

Bob's enjoyment of the bit is somewhat irrelevant because he clearly isn't aware enough to realize that these guys are laughing at him not with him. The "He likes it. We're his friends." argument is no doubt how B&B justify the Bob in Niles bit but it's not true and it doesn't justify what they do. They're no better than the kids who pick on special-ed students in school.

If you think everyone of Bob's family (should it exist) is completely unaware that he is getting on a fairly popular drive-time sports radio show for an extended bit nearly every Friday, I think you're wrong.

The arguments that are being made seem to be based on the fact that Bob MAY BE ENJOYING HIMSELF, but it doesn't matter because the joke is on him. Well, I happen to think that whatever place Bob lives, he's the BMOC now and is probably enjoying his mini-celebrity. You don't think there's people at his church that know he gets on the air? People at the home certainly know he's on the air and I bet a few tune in, and in his circles I bet he's viewed as a superstar. I see Bob's constant invitations to B&B to come to an event as an attempt to further cement his status with his circle of friends and acquaintances and yes, gasp perhaps even family. Others see it as a lonely man wanting company. I don't. If Bob is no longer allowed to do this segment, he'll be far sadder than he is now. Sure, he won't be the butt of jokes anymore but you better believe he'll be upset about it.

I challenge everyone on this board to utilize all your intelligence, and your nefarious internet ways and figure out what family Bob has, and contact them to inform them of this situation. Then post your response. It can't be that difficult.

Now, the segment is quite awful at this point. But it's not awful because I feel sorry for Bob-it's awful because it's a waste of radio time on a bit that just has no humor to mine.

And for those of you who feel now like I'm a cold-hearted evil person who takes pleasure in making fun of challenged people, well, I'll let my board record supporting unpopular and "different" people speak for itself.

so, you quote W_Z who suggests Bob is enjoying himself, then compare him to Jonathan Martin who beyond a shadow of a doubt hated the existence he was living in?

Some people think it's OK to make fun of an elderly man who clearly has some mental infirmities - on the radio btw, and some people think it's disgusting behavior. I think the latter are "on the right side of history" on this one.

As a parent I can control what my adult child may choose to do, to an extent. As the son of a parent, how am I supposed to stop them from picking up a phone and dialing? Or any other behavior that I don't necessarily appreciate? And if one were to contact the family and they express disapproval (or ignorance) does your opinion then swing? So until the victim (or the victim's family) speaks out, its all just goofy fun? Does that mean nobody else can or should speak out?

The 99-out-of-100 defense is the weakest argument to justify your position, like the counselor who exploits a client because it wasn't so bad this time. You don't like the segment now but you're okay with it until there's a voice that you want to hear that says otherwise? I just don't get the connection between the "challeneged" and unpopular or different people?

i don't see how ridiculing someone who isn't aware of the ridicule and are having fun is justifiable at all. i worked with the mentally handicapped for a short time and i could of found immense joy in ridicule that i know for sure they too would of obliviously enjoyed. i'd still be an asshole.

This.

I remember seeing the same things in high school(Go Porters). We had a couple of special-ed students in our gym class and a couple of douche bags picked on them all the time to the delight of their douche bag group. It was rarely full-on harassment, more often than not it was just engaging one the special-ed kids in conversation and laughing at his responses. These kids would all crowd around and laugh at the "weird" and "funny" things he said. And whenever the teacher would speak up, "We're not picking on him, we're friends" was always the go to excuse. This, of course, eventually escalated to one of the douche bags trying to punch one of the special-ed kids because Lockport is a really great place to raise a family.
