Agree with CH and RPB. She did some pretty risque stuff back in the day. Could have been Johnny's permanent fill in.

Dude, that's like saying Frank Thomas was a one note hack. Yes, I just equated Jeff Ross with the Big Hurt. What about it? That's how good Ross is at that one thing. He earned his title of Roastmaster General.

Funny. I once wrote a pilot called dead man never knowing that it was a Bob Dylan song. I did know it was a Jim Jarmusch film though. I still had a great premise. If only I could write. The treatment didn't go over well.

She was funny but to me in a Roseanne Barr way. Nothing special. Ground breaking I suppose. I hate why so many are over the top when someone dies. If she was that great she wouldn't have been interviewing red carpets with daughter but making some movies or tv or something.

you know, i really really wish the old battle axe had an idea that she was gonna go cuz you know that joan just truly didn't give a fuck deep down.

i don't think she had any idea that she was about to go cuz by all accounts this was some seemingly routine surgery that went awry and had a clot hit the area of her brain that affected all of her motor skills, so yeah, i think for some of this she might have been in there with some glimmer of consciousness/memory but no ability to move :| . but yeah i think it was a routine surgery cuz she had the procedure on a thursday morning and then had a gig of some kind on friday night. THE BROAD LOVED TO WORK*.

while the bitch knew how to play the game and kiss ass when she needed to, i'm tellin you if she knew she had some sort of limited time left she would have prolly snapped in the form of some legendary interview/column/blogpost/epic-twitter-rant where she would have went off on hollywood and how phony they all are, right holden? i think we were deprived of a potentially GOAT exit stage left reminiscient of dude quitting the fast food job in half baked.

RIP you still somewhat delightful old bag. last thing of hers i really enjoyed is when she was hosting some new york NPR-style-radio show and she had the guy on who was johnny carson's old agent/business-manager/etc in the 70s/early-80s who had the tell-all-book about the real johnny carson. a great 30min listen. oh and i'll cop to occasionally putting on fashion police for up to one segment because especially on E! you can do a lot worse.

speaking of a lot worse, let's hope she left melissa something nice as opposed to being one of those ppl who leaves all their $$$ to charity because they want their kids to "live their own life" (read: the kids are some kind of hard-drinking/drugging assholes who wanna party all the time like eddie murphy's girl, so they get the jaycee chan treatment(TM). btw if you wanna see some legendary HK cinema go dig up some jaycee chan movies (he's like hong kong's danny dyer) and see what jackie's #1 son contributed to the fine art of cinema)

Yeah, maybe this loss will cause Giuliana Rancic to return to her home planet.

I'm pretty sure Joan Rivers "not being funny" is just a case of her being far past her prime so our opinion is skewed.

If we were judging Robert DeNiro based on his last 15 years he wouldn't be considered a great actor either.

Lin Brehmer played a little bit of her old stuff this morning and it was funny. I just happen to think that E! is the worst of the worst as far as popular culture goes, so the part she played in that mean-spirited vapidity sours me quite a bit.

i get this otheworldly vibe that her vagina is just some kind of nasty/mangled/etc.

i mean you know that pretty much all tv/massmedia people on camera are whores (just like i bet you that $$$millions$$$ can get you a night with just about any non-name-recognition fashion model out there. or if you're terry richardson it's an honor for you to suck his dick with a gun to your head while steve o fingers your asshole with peanut butter. president obama can't wait to get a picture with you) AHEM, but there's something about giuliana where i bet she was once some kind of a rampant whore so she worked on her outward appearance/personality so much that she eventually evolved into a perma-bronzed pumpkin/human hybrid with no discernable flaws, so yeah you know that life always finds a way to balance out and her c00ch is beyond wrecked like some arby's roast beef style with a NES max thumbpad on one of the beef slices.

Beardown: What's that, Giuliana? :?:

Guiliana: That's my clitoris, Beardown! :alien:

Beardown:

Drinky: If you disagree with the show, listen more. If you don't like the show then don't fucking talk about it, OK?

Mitch: One of these days i'm going to find out how Beardown is always 3 steps ahead of me in saying what I'm about to start thinking

Beardown: WTF am I doing in this thread? I should make my own thread about this so everyone knows it's worth reading! 8)

You have unique taste and that's putting it kindly.

Most people thought Robin Williams was funny and pretty much everyone loved Carson. Do you think you are right and the whole world is wrong?

And no, Ross is not a great stand up by any measure. Listen to comedians list their favorites. Very few Ross mentions.

You think current Comedy Central roasts are the pinnacle of comedy. That's fine but you clealry just like a certain kind of low brow comedy.

I have only seen 3 roasts...They were decent , yeah..I like Ross..he makes me laugh..the show -The burn- cancelled I assume..was funny as hell.

I'm pretty hard on comics..I know its hard to do..95% of comediens aren't funny to me..its not about right/wrong..its just personal preferences .
like I told ya b4 -

Carlin
Pryor
Rickles
Dangerfield
Hicks
Rock
Murphy
Epps

those guys are brilliant

I also thought Yukko the clown on Stern was hilarious back in the day..

Agree to disagree.

My best friend just sent me a link to Gilbert Gottfried's spot on the Joan Rivers roast. I watch all of the roasts, but I don't remember this one.

After watching the Gottfried clip? Not funny. Not fun. I think he's generally pretty good on the roasts, but not one of his better efforts.

As for Ross, I do put him at the top of the roasters, but I would never list him in the top 100 comedians. Personally, I just think he does the roasts the best.

I think Ross is resting on his laurels. When I first saw him do roasts in the late 90s I thought he was funny as hell. The last 5-10 years of his work on the roasts has not even come close to those early performances, which is understandable because he was young and wanted to make a good impression.

Those on here that said Ross is a much better roaster than a standup are entirely accurate.

I just recently discovered the mild tones of a Todd Barry. Anyone a fan of his? Never heard of the guy until I came across his routine on Comedy Central. Good stuff.
