I can't believe he only got 2 games. This wasn't the first time he's done this either.

I understand video of the suspended Oklahoma RB's girl beating will be released soon. Supposedly just vicious.

Must be a RB thing.

NFL is now claiming they never saw that video.

My guess is Ray is going away for a lot longer and Gordon and Welker get their suspensions cut in half by tomorrow.

I am guessing the players union would have something to say about that.

They saw it before, part of their defense was we the public didn't know what happened in the elevator but they did. Not sure what the video changes though, not to be flippant, but that looks how I would expect someone knocking out their wife too look.

Would they? Goodell as usual has them over a barrel. Do they want to defend a guy who punched out his fiancé on video when the public is already clamoring for a harsher punishment?

Yeah, but they don't really matter. Are they going to choose Ray Rice as the line in the sand? They desperately want the recreational drugs policy to be relaxed.

Well, I assumed from that defense that they thought she was fighting him so much he had no choice but to hit back. This clearly was not self defense in any way.

Not bump her? Not punch her like it was routine? That was the reaction of a guy who beats women.

He's pretty short. Probably feels threatened when he walks around a Chucky Cheese.

So, just to clarify ... is the overall issue about violence against people, or just that a man can't hit a woman? Because while I'm not advocating the latter, said latter would be, like it or not, the textbook definition of a sexist viewpoint ... and I've been made to understand sexism, like racism, is a naughty thing.

Also, more seriously, how much pink does Ray Rice wear in October? Does he wear it the rest of the year after October?

Nothing annoys me more than parents saying "don't hit girls!" No dumbass, don't hit anyone. I will say though, spousal abuse, in either gender direction, makes things worse. If Ray Rice were to be punished more for that, I'd be fine with that.

The union's in professional sports have defended a lot of morons over the years, he will join the list.

There is a difference when it comes to hitting a man and a woman. The majority of men will win the fight against a woman. Why prey on someone who is usually physically weaker? What does it prove? Many of these same men wouldn't be as quick to attack another man.

You're correct.

The CBA explicitly forbids extending/increasing fines/suspensions. The allowance is there to see them reduced, however.

I just imagine it is some sort of CBA double jeopardy as DT mentions.

The NFL may not be able to change his punishment, but could the Ravens impose their own punishment?

The public focus right now is how bad the NFL fucked up the Rice, Welker, and Gordon suspensions. PR-wise it's the perfect time to let the NFL give themselves enough rope to hang themselves. Fight an increased suspension for Rice and all of a sudden the public is supporting the NFL and the NFLPA are the bad guys, and based on the lockout I'm guessing people will easily flock back to supporting Goodell.

While true, that is also concurrently sexism.

I'm just making the point not to laud Ray Rice, but to reference down the road for unwarranted cuntery down the road by nattering hens who bitch about anything and everything from how it's sexist to hold doors or say "ma'am" (yes, I've heard these before, and yes, they were treated to my more "brusque" side in short order) to how women can compete with men in sports to deserving the right to vote and speak in public.

The thing is that the commissioner can basically do whatever he wants for the good of the game. There is always language in these things that allows for it.

The players union may fight it but they desperately wants the recreational drug policy changed right now and are they really going to choose Ray Rice to fight over? Even Rice probably knows that 2 games was a joke.

The Ravens who fucking held a press conference to have his fiancé apologize for making him hit her?

"NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said that nobody from NFL has seen the latest Ray Rice video until today."
They may not add to the suspension but they are clearly reexamining things.

There is one other thing I did not write or refer to, and that is the other videotape the NFL and some Ravens officials have seen, from the security camera inside the elevator at the time of the physical altercation between Rice and his fiancée. I have heard reports of what is on the video, but because I could not confirm them and because of the sensitivity of the case, I never speculated on the video in my writing, because I don’t think it is fair in an incendiary case like this one to use something I cannot confirm with more than one person. I cannot say any more, because I did not see the tape. I saw only the damning tape of Rice pulling his unconscious fiancée out of the elevator.

Bet King backtracks that.
