Many white people seem very concerned that they are not getting treated fairly.

The "if this was a white guy..." statements seem to be at an all time high

Should all seemingly racial issues be seen equally?

Not even sure it is a case of "being treated fairly"

In a perfect world, its all equal.

Not a perfect world.

The history matters imo.

Of course racially motivated crimes against groups who have been victims of tremendous racially motivated atrocities in recent history will be looked at differently, right?

I hate to sound like Bernstein on this issue, but it is a major reason you just try to walk away these days.

Been flashed a gun at me twice in my life. can happen anywhere at anytime.

I am comparing to many events.

The Victim here has not been named (At least as far as I know).

I feel very sure that if a crowd of white frat boys came running into a store through a parking lot randomly beating on black people, kicking them while they lay defensless on the ground, the story would have full coverage on every network right now.

Both scenarios are inaccurate portrayals of the majority of people of that race, but is always covered and recieved different.

I have not claimed anything. I'm just asking for clarification because you write like a drunk on roller skates. So which events are you comparing this to?

Feel free to assume whatever you like, as you already have, you have an agenda, you might as well address it.

As I said, you can pick one of many events to compare it to.

This seems like a textbook case of Boomer Esiason's Accepted Racial Stereotypes.

For a smart guy, you sound pretty dumb right now.

You're the one who posed the question as to whether or not this incident "will get the same attention."

The logical response is to ask, as I did, "the same attention as what?"

It's unfortunate that you think LOGIC has an anti-bigfan bias.

Would've been an interesting case if the dude getting beat on by several people would've popped up and shot a couple of these unarmed guys. He probably should have just accepted his beating is how I'm guessing the story would go.

If a large group of people is beating you, and you shoot one or two guys, methinks you would probably then end up dead.

YOu get up and start blasting those fuckers would be gone faster than cock roaches when a light comes on.

I've learned a lot from this board. Most comes from discussions that most people wouldn't want to have face to face. Even a guy like BF who never really comes out and says what he's thinking but posts enough that you get a good idea about how he feels. Most people are honest and I think that is a great thing. I understand most of what is posted even though I disagree with a lot of it. Some have even gotten me to see some things differently.

Beyond the stuff Steve posts the most unfortunate thing I read here was that blacks and whites shouldn't have to live next to one another. "People should be comfortable when they go home." It was an honest statement. The idea of living next to a black person (regardless of what type of person or family it is) makes some/many uncomfortable or it makes them afraid. They feel safer around people who look and talk like them. I completely understand that feeling. It's probably a natural feeling.

The issue I had with the statement is the person who made it and many people who say similar things are rarely if ever around a black person. They didn't grow up around any. Didn't go to school with any. Don't work with any but they still have these strong feelings. Some may have had a bad experience or know someone who had one and after reading or watching the news they believe that all black people are the same way. What's interesting is many blacks feel the same way when it comes to living around whites. Some have never been around a white person beyond the policeman that drives through their neighborhood but they hate all of them. The hate runs deep. Some may have had a bad experience or know someone else who had one and they believe all whites are the same way.

My life experience is different. From the age of 8 until now (32) I've been around people who don't look like me almost daily. Initially the way they talked and dressed and the music they liked seemed weird to me. In a short period I realized even though we are different in some ways we have a lot more in common. I have friends from all walks of life who look different than me. Some I've known for over 20 years. Most are really good/great people. One of them I looked up to like a father. There is nothing that can change that for me. No negative experience could do it. Even my bigoted family couldn't. Why? Because I've built relationships. I've had enough positive experiences and interactions to view the world differently than many people who grew up inside and outside my neighborhood.

How can you feel uncomfortable/afraid or hate a group of people you've never truly tried to get to know or understand. For some of you your only interaction with a black person is with me on this message board. The rest you get from the news and the internet. I'm not saying go into a gang area and try to befriend one. I'm saying make a genuine effort to get to know some. I think if some of you kept an open mind and tried to get to know or understand a person that looks and may talk a little different than what you're used to you'll probably like them. You'll also see that most aren't like what you see depicted on the news and in movies. That will change the way you see the world for the better.

Good and heartfelt post I think. Why do you assume most people have no interaction with people of the opposite race though? IDK say after 1980 either you are in a fast track cocoon if you did not have a black person in school, college or work. You are right in that it is easier to be friendly and "open" to the black family or mixed family in people's subdivision of 200k houses rather than out in some other area. I prefer to see progress where it is rather than take a Ferguson thing and think it is all fucked up.

I had a couple of race thought changing events in my life and in the end it is better. In general I think people forget it takes evolution and time for change and Archie Bunkers to die off. We make the mistake of viewing everything in the right now on tv world.

I am not sure I am even saying something that makes sense but I sure as hell see things better than where I grew up.

I didn't say most. I said some. As an adult I have noticed that some people who ended up liking me was surprised that I was "different". That was just based on their lack of experience. Even in college and in the work place some say just the bare minimum or nothing at all. Some have made up their minds already and the communication is awkward.

Edit: This is all groups of people. I know that the overwhelming majority of people here are white so it was directed at you all in the end. I say the same thing to blacks too.

It's not with me. Now if I'm talking to someone it's because they NEED me to do something for them. It's just something I've noticed in the past from observing everyone. Kind of like sitting at the bar and trying to come up with the perfect thing to say to one of the few women left. You usually end up saying something silly because you did too much thinking.

 I didn't do that. I have an idea how you feel about a lot of these issues but you never really come out and say exactly how you feel. You leave it up to the reader to decide.

It's because every issue is different and an absolute viewpoint cant and shouldnt be used.

You NAS continue to bring up the 9 year old who was shot and that story died. I think that should be addressed and solved. You claim you heard things. if I said that, you would be all over me for not telling what I know.

I have heard things and names. From what I've been told the police are being told these things too. Everything wasn't as it seemed from what I am told. I thought that from the beginning. Because I can't prove anything I don't want to go further than that.

Nas, I have some interesting stories and will tell you that college and having to work a couple years in depressed Chicago neighborhoods changed my views about as much as one's views can change. I will put a couple in here tomorrow when I have the energy.

That post was fucking pathetic Panther. Nas proved he's one of the good ones, huh?

It's not up to individuals in a demographic to disprove a stereotype. What the fuck are you thinking? It's up to the individual person to not be a close minded shithead and judge every group of people based on the interaction with one person of that demographic. Some of you all fucking suck as people.
