Gary Bettman just covered up three woman meetings in the past 15 minutes.

No Jews.

Looks bad. Why would this tape be coming to the NFL office from a enforcement source that needed to be shielded from having their name out? This the guy that leaked to TMZ as well?

I say the next step is Goodell says some underling could not confirm source so never forwarded it. Or some employee gets a golden parachute to fall on the "I never moved it up the chain" sword.

I think Roger is too far past the "I never moved it up" sword. He said last night they never got it.

Time for Roger to take the golden parachute.

Man, this cocksucker makes $44 million a year! And people worry that the players are overpaid.

Why in the hell would the NFL owners pay their commissioner $44 million? They cant get someone good for $5 million?

I love that the voicemail they have saying they saw the tape is a woman. I hope the NFL continues to be tone deaf to women and the only person other than Rice who gets fired is a woman.

Did Bettman become Saudi Arabian?

The league will launch an "independent" investigation led by representatives from a law firm in [very lucrative] business with the NFL, and overseen by NFL owners...how dumber does this story get? Does the league actually think having the former FBI director (as part of the law firm) lead an investigation into the league's response makes said investigation "independent," or do they presume onlookers are too dumb or indifferent to notice the obvious conflict of interest?

They're simply adding more reasons to be offended by this whole.sordid affair.

To oversee a league that's got its share of brawny and violent mental midgets, to keep the unsavory activities and proclivities out of the public eye*, and to keep his yap shut about it all.

*Oops.

It's that last part that kinda sorta maybe has kept his head out of the guillotine to this point.

(I see we're now up to 5 idiots)

You are so very right. This keeps getting worse for the NFL.

Mueller, based in Washington, D.C., is currently a partner in the law firm of WilmerHale, which helped negotiate the NFL's Sunday Ticket package with DirecTV. The firm also has represented Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, and several former members of the firm have taken positions with NFL teams

Unbelievable that they use the term "independent investigation."

Condoleeza Rice. NFL needs to overcompensate.

Not with that last name!

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell apparently stopped investigating the Ray Rice domestic-violence incident because, after a meeting with the Rices, he came away with the conclusion that Janay Rice became unconscious because she fell during the scuffle. Goodell thought it insensitive to question Janay Rice’s story because it would have reflected badly on her character, according to two people familiar with the commissioner’s thinking who spoke to The Wall Street Journal. Goodell’s decision came despite an initial police report that described Ray Rice’s attack, when he attempted to “cause bodily injury to J. Palmer, specifically by striking her with his hand, rendering her unconscious while at the Revel Casino.”

I heard a guest speculate that because Goodell was previously the NFL's general counsel, he knows where all the bodies are buried. The owners are afraid of what he knows, hence the public support by most of them (so far).
