ok am i missing something here? why are all of the torch-n-pitchfork mobs out for goodell's head with this latest BREAKING NEWS about someone in the NFL having access to the tapes?
last i checked this is what happened:
1) ray rice and his soon-to-be-wife got into a nasty little spat at some casino in atlantic city. despite the whole "it takes two to tango thing" ray hit the chick, she fell and hit her head against some elevator railing (which has been upgraded into him laying her out cold with a single punch) and he dragged her out of the elevator caveman-style. i even saw some chick on CNN/MSNBC/something lament that ray "didn't bend over to ask if she's ok or anything" --- OMFG WHOAAAAA I'M GONNA KILL THAT MOTHERFUCKER MYSELF IF I SEE HIM CUZ YOU AT LEAST ASK IF THE CHICK IS OK!
2) the chick realizes that anything coming out of this fucks up her chances for future $$$$$ (cuz ray is gonna still try and marry her to save face, and now with this incident out there she's got the red carpet rolled up to walk away with half/more of his shit, and she's always got an infalible reason to do so (spousal abuse) so basically the bigger of a deal this thing becomes the less $$$ she's gonna have one way or another down the road.
3) there's some shitty grainy video of the part where ray drags her out of the elevator (and doesn't hitch up her skirt or bend over to ask how she's doing! *GASP* THE HORRORS!)
4) ray rice's defense has access to some video that shows him hitting her (tho what everyone calls a giant "cold cock" to me looks like he just gave a decent shot to a crazed bitch charging him that mostly brushes her aside) and the result is that she falls, hits her head on the elevator railing, gets knocked out cold, and gets the cavewoman treatment. we now find out that this video was given to somebody in the NFL at some point.
5) ray rice's beeeyotch decides to not file charges on this (likely cuz of the future $$$ she'd be out by "ruining his career") and a day after the court case she marries the guy. the baltimore ravens issue a hilarious tweet/stagement where the chick apologizes for her "unfortunate role" in this whole rigameroo.
6) with no charges filed/pursued/prosecuted and, presumably, only a bunch of he-said/she-said where the only known video at the time showed ray rice dragging the chick out of the elevator caveman style, goodell ***ONLY*** suspends him 2 games or something and life goes on.
7) somewhere along the way, the hotel/casino that this incident happened at goes out of business so it's quite possible that some employee grabbed a copy of the tape as a golden parachute / retirement-plan in the wake of losing a job at the casino. dude sells the tape to TMZ or something to collect his/her 6-7 figures.
now that there's a video out that shows ray rice giving this chick charging him a decent pop that brushed her aside into the railing that knocked her out cold, suddenly OMFG RAY RICE IS THE MOST EVIL MAN EVER!!! YOU NEVER HIT A WOMAN NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES (and of course women know this and often spit right in your face or physically assault you knowing that, hey, if you lay a finger n them well you're immediately in the wrong and etc etc. feminism is all for equality unless it's one of those situations where women have a total and unquestionable advantage, at which point it's out-n-out misogyny that you dare question the status quo! YOU NEVER LAY YOUR HANDS ON A WOMAN!!!!) and the ravens cut him, the NFL moves to suspend him indefinitely (at least for a whole season, right?) and EA is going to have the first madden 2015 patch remove him entirely from the game and hey unless you're a justin forsett guy us guys who had drafted bernard pierce all over the place are like "hey we told you that ray rice was done one way or another"
9) now that someone in the NFL has access to this video, social justice demands goodell's head on a plate because courts of law be damned.... if there's a video out there that purports-to/shows something that people en masse don't like (or at least the faux-populist people who claim to represent all of us shout about loud enough to speak for all of us) well YOU HAVE TO ACT QUICKLY AND DEFINITIVELY AND WITHOUT HESITATION TO PUNISH WHERE THE LAW DID NOT!
is there any crusade to get the prosecutor against ray rice fired? is there any crusade to get the judge who didn't slam ray rice fired? what about ray rice's wife.... she should be in jail for attempting to cover up a clearly obvious heinous crime by not filing charges or saying that the massmedia/public has ruined her life by making a big deal about this.... and i mean there's a video that shows a famous man hitting a woman! WHAT THE FUCK MRS. RICE YOU OUGHTA GO DOWN IN FLAMES FOR THIS BECAUSE THE VIDEO IS IN. THE EVIDENCE HAS SPOKEN. RAY RICE IS GUILTY OF EVERYTHING WE CAN THROW AT HIM!!!!!
so yeah, while i'm not gonna sit here and say that ray rice didn't screw the pooch bigtime.... it's just odd to me that this is suddenly a OMFG ROGER GOODELL IS DONE.... HE HAS TO BE, RIGHT?! situation when like.... there's no legal charges against ray rice. clearly the police would have / should have had access to this tape and even if the future mrs rice didnt wanna press charges well since the tape is 100% irrefutable evidence i mean he should be rotting in jail for 15-20 years for this hideous crime upon womynkind! IT'S A RAPIDLY DEVELOPING MASSIVE NFL STORY!!!!!
idk. i just can't see how ray rice didn't end up in jail for this if the tape is 100.0% evidence that he's a horrible criminal and rah rah rah.... and now goodell is on the chopping block because he didn't suspend this guy for a year, but only 2 games? he changed the policy on domestic abuse to become "the ray rice rule" effectively, and while ray rice might have "gotten away with it" for a short period of time where he only had a 2 game suspension before he got cut and suspended indefinitely... ray rice is basically out of football and quite possibly done for his career.... and goodell done goofed, and now we're saying because he didnt go out and punish ray rice unilaterally and unequivocally without a doubt in a severe enough matter that he's gotta go?
so basically if he initially suspended ray rice for a year or expelled him from the league he's all good? but because it was 2 weeks until the video got out now it's like GTFO OF THE NFL YOU FUCKING INCOMPETENT-TO-DOWNRIGHT-EVIL PIECE OF SHIT!?!?!?!?!??!
idk. i'm not saying that people are necessarily wrong in thinking that he should have done more.... but without massive legal problems for ray rice it just feels to me like a pitchfork-n-torch wielding social justice mob is having a field day with this one.... and well, if this ray rice thing is technically apropos and worth the outrage at the 2 game suspension, that doesnt do much to convey the outright fear i've got that the social justice mob can go out and basically demand justice beyond the legal system should they deem it worthy (i.e. they're saying even if goodelll didn't see tape #2 he should have given ray rice the full indefinite suspension because THE EVIDENCE WAS IN! HE DRAGGED HER OUT OF AN ELEVATOR! NOBODY HAS EVER PASSED OUT DRUNK B4 HE CLEARLY JACKED THE BITCH AND YOU NEED TO SUSPEND HIM 4 LYFE!!!!!
yeah TL;DR and i reckon i'll get a lot of shit/smh-sentiments (i might even lose my nas pass) but yeah, i reckon i'm prolly the only one who is a bit earpy that this whole thing feels like a social justice mob running around and demanding their justice.... and in the end, they get it and thensome. which is worrysome going forward. i guess the legal process is more of a "good start" as opposed to the be-all/end-all when this many people have their minds made up.
