How is my car and my driving affected by you wearing a seatbelt? It isnt at all.
As I explained in the previous post, you are going to be less able to stay in control in an accident or even a potential accident. You may end up rear ending me because you can't stop because you are shooting forward.

Crosswalks are not a good comparison at all. If I ran through the middle of the street, I am endangering other drivers. Crossing at a designated crosswalk is following the rules of the road. I'm not advocating driving on sidewalks or thru people's front yards.
Wearing a seatbelt is a rule of the road too.
Hank Scorpio wrote:
The liability is on you because you caused the accident. Whether I am wearing a seatbelt doesnt matter. You caused an accident and you should be liable for the damage you caused.
Of course it matters. You are much more likely to be seriously injured which has both economic and mental consequences to me. I understand I'm currently at fault either way. I'm saying that if you choose to not wear a seatbelt I don't feel I should be liable for things that happen because of your decision. I'll have the car fixed but I'm not paying for your brain surgery.

Be poor and don't own a car new enough to have that bullshit.

I should have the freedom to be ejected from my car, if I desire. This tyranny will not stand.

The same downside to wearing a sport coat and shoes on an airplane. It infringes on one's comfort.

I have a friend who claims that seatbelts do more harm than good. He also says that sunscreen doesn't prevent skin cancer, it causes it, nor does he believe in vaccinations. This is what happens when you consume the verbal diarrhea spewed by Alex Jones.

My mother, who is basically the female Scorehead, with her silly conservative thoughts, refuses to wear her seatbelt, simply because the gov't isn't going to tell her what to do. She has received several tickets, but still won't wear it. She was also in a bad car accident twenty years ago, and would not have suffered the serious injuries she did, if she was wearing a belt.

The moral of the story is, some people DO need to be told what to do.

It's the truth. She votes against referendums for school and police, and then complains that the schools suck, and she never sees the police drive by the house anymore. She says that she doesn't watch FOX News, but every time I am in her house, FOX News is on the television. She is one of those fake Libertarians that Favre Fan referenced the other day.

Does she start off all her statements by saying "I said this a long time ago..." and then end with a cliched quip from a "Management for Dummies" book?

That is all insane though... I know a seatbelt is more safe than not wearing a seatbelt. I also know eating a salad with a grilled chicken breast on it is more healthy and safe for me than eating a mac and cheese stuffed burger with fries. I dont think the government should be regulating, giving fines or forcing me to do either thing. I can get the facts and make my own decision. Your friend has done the same, he just got the 'facts' from crazy people

Hank, if there's even a slight chance wearing your seatbelt will stop your car from killing other people isnt that reason enough?

The sad thing is, you shouldn't need a law to have people wear seat belts. You'd think people would have common sense enough to realize it's a smart choice. But then I see all the folks who ride around IL without motorcycle helmets, and I just sigh.

For the record, I do not think there should be a law requiring seat belts, but I have always worn mine and would regardless of the law.

So you are going to compare it to a food choice but my crosswalk example was too different?

That's not true

Its absolutely happened where a vehicle went out of control after someone was thrown from their seat and if they remained in the seat they could have steered off.

You can argue its a very remote chance but you cant say its impossible

The fact is that sometimes the government needs to act as a group that gets information out there. That is why the fine is so low. It's basically a warning that you are an idiot.

Also, it has been well established that the government has the right to enforce regulations for the intended use of a car. Cars are designed with seat belts being worn in mind. It's just like tinted windows or requiring you to clean the snow off your windshield.

You said crosswalks are a rule of the road. So are seatbelts. Shouldn't you have the right to cross wherever you damn well please?

Yes, you're right. I can put aside my anti-government feelings long enough to admit that it is for the good of society. It saddens me that we need a law for that....

OK, by this logic can we argue anything. Almost anything is possible.

It's absolutely happened that a bird has shit on someone while driving with a sunroof open and they got in an accident because of it. Make a new law and start writing tickets for driving with your sunroof open.
