They're both good. You can probably burn through the walking dead stuff pretty quickly too.

The first 3 books of the Game Of Thrones series are great, the last 2 I struggled to get through them.

Are the Walking Dead comics still going on or are they all written? If they are finished, I would suggest those. GRRM is a walking stroke/heart attack. No way he finishes the last two books. I think the TV series will end up being the medium in which we see the conclusion of GoT.

I've read both and this is a no brainer for me, definitely go with TWD comics. The reason is simple. They're different from the tv show so you'll be getting a new experience when you read them. GOT is about 90% the same as the tv show which makes it a tough read after you've already seen the show. The proper way to attack GOT is to read the books first and then watch the show. A lot easier to get through an hour show where you pretty much know what is going to happen vs getting through a 1000 page book under the same scenario.

Ok, what about picking up the GoT books at the point where the show left off?

Possible?

No, not really. They started veering away from the chronological story telling that was present early in the series. Lately they are mixing stuff from books 3 and 4. I would recommend reading the whole series to get the full context. You could probably skip book 1 since that one was followed 100% to the letter during season 1.

You have enough of a base in place that you could do it. Probably get a bit mixed up here and there with people/places. Enough people here have read it that you could start a thread and get your questions answered.

I wouldnt recommend it though.

I agree with Shakes, with one caveat. I think TWD, much like GOT, has dropped off in the most recent volumes. but it takes like 110 volumes before that happens.

That could very well be true. I've fallen behind the comics, I think I'm about a year behind, maybe less. I think I stopped around the time Carl went to Negan's camp., maybe a little bit after that.

If you're a 12 year old boy, go with TWD comics.

If you're an adult, GoT books.

comics are always going to be easier digest...unless you're reading alan moore.

i didn't do either with walking dead, and instead watched "28 days later", "dawn of the dead", and about a dozen other zombie movies first. didn't really need to see a show retreading the same story.

TWD is easier and a pretty good read until about 102 when they start spinning their wheels. I'm about 4 issues behind current.

GoT is great through book 3-1/2. 5 was a slog but got better toward the end. And I started reading after watching season 1. The books provide a wealth of context that helps you enjoy the show but it's a 5,000 page commitment.

and you may want to pound GRRM after getting to the end of book 5...

i think the most "commitment" i ever had to make to a comic book/graphic novel series that wasn't a superhero serial was neil gaiman's "sandman". i think it's 75 issues. but it's one of the best GNs i've ever spent time reading. one of the classics. expensive as fuck to collect.
