Things like this are said, and they are meant, when they are said, and it's why I obsessively prove to you that all of your visions for your team are a mirage.

Arrieta burned his fluke year too early. You'll hate him this time next year.

I'll hate that his starts in mid September have no meaning next season since the Cubs will have already clinched the NL Central.

You also have terrible sentence structure.

What evidence can you possibly have to prove Jake Arrieta is in the same realm as Chris Sale?

Jake Arrieta xFIP: 2.79
Chris Sale xFIP: 2.80

Jake Arrieta WAR: 4.6
Chris Sale WAR: 5.3

But you're right, Jake Arrieta sucks.

Arrieta is legit but let's not kid ourselves. Chris sale is arguably a top 5 pitcher.

No. He's not even the best pitcher in the AL Central.

I'm a little worried about Arrieta being too frail.
The guy looks like he lives in an Alsipian meth trailer.

Arrieta looks Sale-ish 75% of the time

Sale has certainly done it longer than Arriettas half season but he certainly looks like
he can be as effective as Sale. Can he keep it up is the question

With every start like last night, I start to think he might

We'll know by next year's all star break either way

Agree. When they're on they both have no-hit stuff no doubt . Looks like Arrietta has finally figured out how to pitch but I've seen too many half season sensations to totally buy in.

Let us make this abundantly clear: Chris Sale has an ERA under 2 in the American League. He plays half his games in the 3rd best hitters park in baseball. He strikes out more than 10 hitters every 9 innings. He is 25 years old and has been steadily improving the past 3 seasons. When left handed aces were being dealt arpund this trade deadline Dave Dombrowski made an offhand joke daring Billy Beane to try and trade for Chris Sale. Trying to say Arrieta, a guy with a career ERA above 4.50, is better than CHRIS FUCKING SALE is the stupidest fucking idea I've yet seen posted on this board.

Not one single person around baseball will agree with that premise. Nobody. If Rick Hahn approached Theo Epstein looking to acquire Jake Arrieta for Chris Sale, Theo Epstein would sell Soler and Addison Russell on top of Jake Arrieta to get it done. Sale, barring injury (which is a big fucking if this day and age), is going to be in the Hall of Fame.

I made it about Arrieta being the best in the city.

I don't care enough one way or another about your White Sox to focus on them in this thread. When I want to discuss White Sox, there was a thread created for me in that section to do that very thing.

True. Many would have said the same thing about Johan Santana. I think that's a good comparison. Sale's been pretty much what Johan was on the Twins

What you said literally means "Better than anyone on the White Sox". You knew what you were doing.

And equally better than anyone on the Cubs. That is just sort of how it works when you call a player the best at something in a city with two teams. I don't apologize for it.

But this is a thread about Arrieta; not your White Sox. I'm not getting sucked into a bigfan / Frank dynamic with you.

So your counter is that I was right? Good talk.

Arrieta also has a pretty mediocre second half ERA, so chill your wood kiddos.

He's due for regression and he's getting it. It's OK, he's still worthy of a rotation spot. He's not a #1 or #2 though.

So he's a fluke, will get injured, or just OK enough to be in the rotation.

It's clear what superfan America thinks with pretty much anything.

I never said he was more or less likely to get injured than any other starter. He's definitely do for regression, he's been a 4A pitcher his entire career. Maybe he won't, it's happened before that guys have flipped the switch, but I look at the cases of guys the Cubs both unloaded (Shark, Hammel, Feldman) and kept (Travis Wood) and the trend is pretty clear: They don't keep it up.

Didn't you recently brag about how you used statistics to show that a regression with Abreu's power was coming? What is the difference with what America is doing?

He seems to be giving some pretty solid statistical reasons behind his posts. Is it that you don't like his ultimate conclusions?

I would say, he has a desired conclusion and goes looking for stats to back it up.

But that's not just him. That's everyone.
