More beating talk being beaten to death.

Glora Alred flapping her lips (all four maybe) at about 3pm. Hopefully Tanny sound drops.

NFL power vacuum means Roger Dodger has gots to go. Prove that wrong.

A little fun, a little ghey, a bunch of shit along the way.

WYC at 5:03pm.

Post, listen, go fuck yourself, read a good book, have a nice day, whatever you like.

Thanks for stopping by.

So, if discipline were to, in fact, mean beating the shit out of a person, then I presume all the uproar over the LAPD "disciplining" Rodney King was in error.

I think this is the ultimate test of Bernstein Irritation Syndrome.

Dan is talking about the evils of beating the crap out of toddlers and I have to remind myself that I agree with him even though my natural instinct to hearing his tone of voice is to disagree with him. I then realize that my counterargument is pro-child abuse.

I completely understand. I don't think we're the only two folks in that category.

Plus, in this particular case, it's frustrating not that he's arguing the obvious ... it's that, apparently, on some level, he actually has to argue the obvious.

Ah, and here we go. Bernstein, as always, walks on eggshells when discussion 'black culture'.

Cites some random study and of course uses it as an opportunity to broadbrush his least favorite group. Of course the people who 'use corporal punishment' tend to be all of Bernstein's buzzword bogeymen - 1. REPUBLICANS. 2. CHRISTIANS. 3. SOUTHERNERS.

Funny though, he's ignoring ALL of the narrative over the last 5 days from BLACK athletes stating that this is part and parcel of BLACK culture. He just gets done talking about Peterson, Reggie Bush, Eric Dickerson and Barkley and their comments about how this is part of the culture. It was done to them and they do it to others.

Umm, Dan, last time I checked: 1. The black community are anything but Republicans, 2. They may or may not be Christian. 3. Black people live all over the country. Reggie Bush is from Southern California.

But hey, apparently 'whoopins' are an inherent part of black culture, yet white Christian Republicans are to blame.

Ok.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Bernstein here.

I honestly do not get them and to a lesser extent other sports talk show hosts. Who do they think their audience is that they need to go on and on on this? Do the ratings/polls show their core audience is in favor or participants in child abuse and child rape? It is lazy radio.

Ehhh... I don't think it's that cut and dry.

For example, everyone is against child abuse (for the most part), but I think we are all logical enough to realize that we have to take a step back and realize that there is in fact a process to some of these things instead of going all "lynch mob" on everything like Bernstein. Taking a step back to breathe before going off the deep end doesn't mean you are in favor of child abuse or Penn St or Lance Armstrong or whatever. He is a very emotional person, it seems, and not always the logical beacon he claims to be.

I do think you should patent the phrase "Bernstein Irritation Syndrome".

Yeah, but like so many people, it's not WHAT he says, but HOW he says it. The thing that pisses me off most about him is the obligatory 'I'm more enlightened than you' crap he pulls on every topic. As if he's the evolved species that has it all figured out, while the rest of society is just beneath him.

They just need to argue around the point until they hit some aspect of a tertiary topic that somebody would disagree with (like the black culture stuff) and then they can yell at them that they are in favor of child abuse.

OH MY GOD! KILL YOURSELF!!

Bernstein just caught himself in a gotcha with his clever U of C study. The study talks of spanking - as far as I'm concerned, spanking softly on the bottom with the palm is quite a different thing than hitting a 4 year old with tree branch.

That said, it's typical Bernstein - painting with a broad brush. He reads it as 'White Southern Republican Christians believe in spanking, which automatically means they approve of hitting a 4 year old with a tree branch until he bleeds'

All the while, ignoring the fact that almost every prominent black athlete has said it's part and parcel of THEIR culture.

Precisely. It says spanking. It does not say 'hitting a child with a tree branch'

But our boy Bernstein will draw that conclusion.

I'd bet a number of people have a) been spanked and b) have spanked a kid.

I'd bet a minute percentage of that group has either hit or been hit with a tree branch.

Big difference, but Berstein and his parrot don't make that distinction.

You misunderstand the last part, I believe.

I'm distressed that there are so many fucking morons that apparently don't have the slightest problem with what AP did (or similar) ... meaning that it's not a problem that Dan is arguing the obvious (as is his custom), but this particular time around the merry-go-round, because society is apparently rife with morons, he actually has to argue the obvious, as in there's a need to do so because the obvious isn't obvious to the oblivious.

As far as this side talk about spanking vs beating, there's nothing inherently useful or enlightened about spankings any more than there is about beatings. A quick, controlled swat on the ass as a last-resort 'attention getter' isn't probably a cause to get up in arms about, but let's also not pretend that because it's obviously different it's therefore obviously a topical non-starter.

Can someone clarify for me the Bush thing. Did he say he punished his 1 year old harshly or that he would? I read his comments to be he would punish his kid harshly when older as something comes up. I was not seeing that he is doing it now.

See when I read this I see future thoughts not current beatings. Not condoning it but Bernsie was saying he is current abuser and DCFS needs to go.

Adrian Peterson's controversial parenting methods sit just fine with fellow NFL running back Reggie Bush, who said he'd consider "harshly" disciplining his own 1-year-old daughter if the situation arose.
