Here me out before I get the slings and arrows.

CSFMB: Shoot arrows at Beardown anyway.

Beardown: Missed anyway, bitches.

Dan's a liar or the Bears PR guy is the dumbest guy ever.

Ok. Big Fan says it's Scott Hagel. The Bears PR guy. Dan gives him a call after the Brandon Marshall presser. "Oh my God, Dan. We told him not to do it. But we're scared to death of him. WE'RE SCARED OF HIM, DAN." Hagel tells Dan.

Fine. What the fuck kind of PR guy admits to a radio host that they're scared to death of the player and they have no control over him. Aren't you admitting that you're bad at your job? That you lack control as the guy responsible for this type of thing. Who would admit that knowing that after the commercial break he's gonna tell that to the world? Cuz Dan has done this "Let me make a call during the break and then comes back with the info" before.

Furthermore, Dan himself says that NFL teams have the best security detail. These guys are ex FBI guys that can get all the dirt on players. Once Emery gets wind of Bernstein's report, couldn't these FBI guys figure out who's the mole in the Bears organization? Wouldn't Hagel be fired? Wouldn't he be scared to say such things? Of course.

In other words, as a PR guy, the job is to give good PR. Isn't this the exact opposite of that?

CSFMB: You gotta point there? But we're still gonna shoot arrows at you. CSFMB, fire away!!!!

So Hagel just happened to be available during Dan's 4 minute commerical break, right? Dan makes a call, Hagel picks up, tells Dan we're scared of Brandon and this was horrible. "TELL THE WORLD WE LACK CONTROL IN OUR ORGANIZATION, DAN!!!!"

Ok. I believe that.

When you go barrel fishing with an AK, sometimes you get good hits and other times its hard to miss. This is one of them. As I've posted before, his "sources" are not operations people but administrative.

It's much more likely that Bernstein's Bear Source is.....himself.

There is no source. He carefully couches whatever it is he wants to say. He gets a hard on off of it.

If there is a source, it's himself. Even if he did the ability to pick up the phone to call any team in the city and get the truth on a commercial break, who is really giving information to a show as vile as this one?

No team gives these assholes real info. The most background people at most. By comparison I had no doubt that Mac had the ear of the Hawks inner circle.

Either way. Texted and got the whole story in that 4 minute commercial break. Good of Hagel to help Bernstein and hurt his employers in that time span. Also good of him to tell Bernstein he has not control as the Bears PR guy. Cuz most PR guys want to let the media know that, of course. Most PR guys love letting bad PR get out. They learn that in PR college.

I thought the same thing this afternoon. Doesn't make any sense for a PR person to admit how powerless the Bears are when it comes to B (using the Larry appellation). Might just be my Dan bias but t all sounded like something Bernstein himself concocted in his head during the break. Like he just reached the logical conclusions that any functioning protoplasmic mass might deduce.

Dan gets emailed these tips from one of the Bears trainers, Kenny Owens.

The Bears kinda did the right thing. B craves the camera. He'll find one no matter what. Better he make an ass of himself in front of soft Chicago media than on national television like Fox or CBS (Since he's like super duper really mad at ESPN right now).

Their mistake was letting him go on and on and on and on and on. Cut that bitch off.

They take liberty with the word sources. I think you're right - Bernstein (and Boers, but he doesn't really matter in this conversation) use the word "sources" to add credibility to the point they are trying to make.

The best part of the Terry text is that he didn't even know he had a response until the closing minutes of the show. Terry barely knows how to use a computer let alone text.

It wasn't that long ago that drinky confirmed to us that guys like Terry, Murph and North didn't use the computer at work.

Phil Emery operated under the Scott Pioli regime in KC, a regime where people were not just sworn to secrecy but allegiance to Pioli. When Emery was hired the afternoon boobs declared that Phil was in charge and doing things his way. So how in the hell have they crafted organizational contacts given their limited access to this regime? Limited access in that Boers doesn't go north of I-80 many days, Bernstein spends his mornings doing his "me" time stuff and evenings with family, so beyond talking to the person who possibly gave them some comped tickets who else could they speak to? Scratch that thought too, they don't go to the games.

Maybe Zach Zaidman has a burn phone that he uses to respond to their texts. He's about as real a contact as they have.

But is it fair to say that Emery is a Pioli foot soldier just because their tenures in Kansas City overlapped? It's not as if Emery was a Belichick guy who came over as part of that awful regime. He's a Dick Jauron guy if he's anything (shudder). And besides, why would he take organizational cues from one of the worst reigns of terror any North American sports team has ever had, including a two-win season and a player completing a murder-suicide in front of his GM? Here's that great article on what a disaster the Chiefs' front office was under Pioli. If Emery is taking cues from this, we're more fucked than we've ever been.

Great story link CH! No, I don't think that Emery has adopted all of Pioli's methods but I would find it hard to believe that in this day and age of communication and surveillance that employees would be cavalier in talking to radio shock jocks. We can go back to the Jerry Krause era with the Bulls when the Berto center had curtains installed to limit access to practices as an indicator of how teams operate. In the story you linked they had the administrative staff pull the shades when the team was practicing, also one of equipment guys acknowledged that it is incumbent upon the employees to adjust to the management style. Bottom line, it may not be the Pioli environment but the concept of "loose lips" sinking an organization is understandable, and job security is incumbent upon not be discovered as a source.

It's interesting. I was checking a couple of websites, nobody is bashing Brandon Marshall for what he said. In fact, the late local news painted him as a good guy in the sound bites they used. Lord knows Brandon gave them a lot of stuff to choose from yesterday.

Then you go to how B&B covered it. Outraged. Disgusted. And they called Marshall a sociopath.

I agree its crazy. Everyone here who was actually listening to Marshall thought it was horrendous. Read the paper today and it was great! Total WTF situation.

That's kind of how Chicago Tonight covered it last night. None of the B+B despicable piece of shit angle.

This is another "story" that Bernstein made up, that can't be proven as a lie, and isn't egregious enough to warrant any retaliation from the Bears. Nothing more, nothing less.
