For allowing over 58 mill credit card files to be hacked.

Now, maybe someone here can answer the question of why they have my credit card info. Of course I have used my CC there, but I guess they decide to then retain my info.

I no longer have a HD CC, becomes an issue when people start buying things for themselves on it, so I cancelled it.

Got my notice yesterday that my info has taken from HD, so a new CC will be sent out.

Always hated HD....YOU ARE A SUCKER IF YOU SHOP THERE, WHEN YOU HAVE OPTIONS....Now I hate them even more.

Just in case you are not aware of the HD pricing model, it is make the paint the same price as everyone else, but who usually just buys the paint. Make the brushes, rags, tape, sponges, etc 2 times or more expensive than Menards (As an example)....They love seeing the couple coming in to pick paint for a weekend project, they are the bread and butter. You arent going to price brushes, tape, etc....but you might try to find the cheap paint....their price on paint will always be low or lower than anyone else.

Save more Money at menards.

At Lowes you're going to pay more, across the board.
Menard's help is about getting away from you as quick as possible. Got the wrong thing? That's what returns are for.
At least at HD I can get someone to confirm if I'm making the right choice in my purchase, and who will talk to me. Then again, they know me on sight at store #6822.

Let also add that their phone app rocks.

lowes tends to hire the most experienced people i think, but you pay for that premium

menards is a shit company. period.

home depot integrates fantastically with their online store, and their customer service its tops. their return service is outstanding- much the same as walmart. overall, i like going there more than any other home store.

Not sure of the exact process, but it sounds like it was an issue with when the cards were actually swiped and the data was transmitted, not so much that HD saved your data and then had it hacked. (They are still at fault, though.)

I hate Lowe's. Home Depot is closer so I go there but Menards is OK with me as well. I really prefer to go to Ace. I walk in the door and I immediately have someone helping me, giving tips and guiding me to the proper aisle. If you already know your shit that would likely be annoying but as I am not very handy, I love it.

Ace has popcorn, too. That's all I need.

Menards > Lowe's > Home Depot...if only because at Menards they play that fucking song every five minutes over the speakers so I can start singing along and embarrass my fiance.

Buy anything else? Think other people buy other stuff when they come in?

Just went there for a pack of razor blades. While in the paint section, I see the tape I bought at menards for $5.98 is $7.98 at Home Depot. Just as an example. Now if I needed it, I would have bought it as it is not worth the $2 savings to drive to menards.

The customer service at Home Depot is brutal in most locations at the pro desk. Walk in during the week and there might be on person helping, show up on a Saturday morning and there is an army of people saying 'Hello, how may I help you." The love serving the Weekend Warriors coming in for the "Home Project:"

Anecdotal semi-related story ... I was just at the bank (for a laugh) and tl;dr they mentioned that they'd ordered new cards for some people (myself included) because apparently Jewel got hit recently. I literally don't have any info beyond that as it really wasn't important (e.g., when, credit/debit). They were being proactive and, I guess, if Jewel was in your transaction history they ordered you a new card. Something else to worry oneself about.

I always felt Menards was a place to "shop". When I need something and I know what I am doing it is Home Depot or secondarily Lowes.

I used to work for a retailer that was very similar to Menard's, although we had better customer service, and also briefly worked for Lowes.

Lowes' stores are run totally by the home office, from the turning on of the lights to turning them off at night -- and everything in between. Ever notice the big black tubing that runs around Lowes' ceiling perimeters? It's not an HVAC or plumbing pipe. There's a moving camera in there that looks down any aisle, trolling for shoplifters.

As others have alluded to, you'll find the lowest prices generally at Menard's, but you need to know what you're looking for. They'll usually beat Lowes' prices significantly. But Lowe's goes deeper on harder-to-find stuff -- and when you've got an older house, sometimes you need that.

Home Depot I think is superfluous if you have access to the above two.

Home Depot is great for buying some tools. I get my Klein stuff there because they don't carry that at Menard and I don't want to go to supply houses for that kinda crap.

On the pro side, menards will match any price I give them for materials. Lumber, Drywall, etc.

Dont know if every Menards runs this way, but my salesguy goes to HD and check the prices on Drywall, Lumber, Insulation, etc and gives that price to his customers.

Lowes will match or beat any price by 10%. At one point I was just able to say ______ has it for a price I would makeup and they would honor it. They're smarter now.

menards treats their employees like absolute trash, thats why they never seem intelligent or happy. even they guys that work there that actually know what theyre talking about dont give a fuck because they are paid a low wage with shit benefits all while being told to get more done. not only do i know by working there 15 years ago, i also still see and hear the same complaints the times i still shop there. like everyone says, if you know what you need and know where to find it, menards is fine. just dont bother asking for help because the employees might stab you and go on a killing spree.

Menards used to be bad (like 15 years ago) but at least the ones I frequent (Long Grove, Gurnee, and Brown Deer, WI) all have helpful employees, good selection, and the lowest prices.

Lowes: Convenient, but more expensive than Menards.

Home Depot: If it's not on sale, forget it.

Ace: Good for the little stuff, like when you don't feel like walking a mile through a store to pick up an appliance bulb or a few screws. Very friendly and helpful.

Specialty/Hard to find stuff (I live in an old house): On-line or the plumbing / electric supply houses.
