Great coach? No. Not winning a super bowl denies that tag.
A winning coach, a coach who put competitive teams on the field? Yes. Which in my book means he wasn't a bad coach. Coaches are hired to be fired as very few get the chance to go through a rebuilding cycle, even the "great" Bill Belichick got run out of Cleveland.

The Tampa 2 is a 4-3 defense but not all 4-3 defenses are playing the Tampa 2.

Smith's offenses should have been better, blame which is on Smith, Angelo, and the Bears. Smith may have been too dependent upon loyalty over competency, Angelo should have been able to identify someone with the proper skill set to complement Smith's defense, and the Bears (organization) should have made sure that the team was in a position to attract that coordinator.

Other coaches have had input in the personnel decisions by hiring the GM including Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, and Andy Reid. GM's falling in love with tweeners, combine wonders, and secret projects have a more detrimental effect than a coach loving a former player who's fallen off.

As to whether Bears fans want McCown to fail, I attribute that to the Chicago sports (particularly football) mentality that to be proven right about a player he has to fail somewhere else.

Yea. Josh was horrible. Tampa Bays offense looked exactly like a Lovie coached offense. Bad.

Josh McNown being bad is a pretty bad sign for Bears fans too.

Did you tell Orton to stay ready in case our future MVP misses a game or 2?

We need to root for Jimmy Clausen to fail.

No, I only have to watch more Jordan Palmer pre-season. I think there was more potential in Haney...

That being said, I only need to watch Lovie's demise in TB.

Lovie has what's known as a good ole fashioned "shitshow" on his hands. The 0-16 Lions looked better.

Some are still sticking to their guns though. Give them credit for that. I guess.

Lovie signed a 4 year contract in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers 5 year strategic plan should include my guy Gus Malzahn as their next head coach. He is the next big time college coach to make a splash in the NFL.

What guns? Has anyone said he's better? He played better than Cutler did last year in the same offense. If Cutler plays a lot more games like he did last Sunday night, the Cutler haters will then start to look bad.

McCown being terrible doesn't support people still justifiably not wanting Cutler around. We thought he was terrible. That's why it changed many peoples minds on Cutler last year.

I guess average seems OK from an Illini perspective.

Exactly.

McCown was always about killing the "If the Bears don't have Cutler, who could they get?" argument. We knew McCown was probably bad at football and yet he outperformed him. That was a major warning sign there when you are about to make a player one of the highest paid in the league. The script now seems to be flipped. Before, it was the talent around Cutler that caused him to fail, but McCown, even if it was for a short time, showed that the talent around him may actually be propping him up.

Even at the time it was said that McCown was probably bad at football. It turns out he is. It's also concerning how a guy with such little talent could outperform one of the highest paid qbs in the league.

I don't want him to fail. But I don't care if he does either.

As far as the Cutler discussion in here goes.. I don't see the problem here. He is an average QB with amazing talent. Figured that out during year 2 with the Bears and nothing has changed.
