The bottom line is that there's nothing wrong with buying new or used. You can get screwed buying new or used and you can get great deals buying new or used. Be an informed consumer and you won't have to rely on morons like us for opinions.

Still a bad deal. At least for the majority of schlubs out there. So before I get my orbital bone fractured I will restate it as such and then hitch a ride outta here with the FanMan.

Schlub= 72 month loan with little down on a 30k car. I've had foolish friends that buy with zero down and pay 400 a month for 6 years. That's a bad deal.

But even as BRICK showed it's close to a wash.

What was the OTD price of that vehicle? If it was $27,000, that is a great deal. $25 a month interest - nbd. Your average American consumer pays more than that in credit card interest monthly.

Why is that a bad deal?
When i've financed a car purchase, i put nothing down. 2 cars had zero interest, 2 had 1.9%, 1 with 2.24%. Putting money down made no sense.

As Brick showed, it all depends on the car and model you are buying and what interest rate you are paying for the car.

I know it's rare, and I understand and feel a little dirty myself, but agreeing with Brick here is the the correct choice.

Apparently the hood isn't the original hood, and the back fender isn't the original fender. No reported accidents but they think something happened to the car.

Could be dented from hail for hood? Backing into something for rear bumper?

No one in the history of car dealers has ever inspected a used car that much unless an accident was reported.

Wouldn't it be easy to tell? I think lying about parts like that would be too risky and open them up to lawsuits or something. I assume all it takes is a check of serial numbers or brand insignia to verify whether parts are original or not.

2013 CSFMB ROY

Car was in New Mexico for a couple of years prior to our coming into possession of it. Could likely be hail damage because they said no accident was reported. Should I run a Carfax to be sure?

I'm not saying they are lying. I'm saying it doesn't sound like an accident. Insurance can replace hail damage hoods for just a cheap deductible, and it is likely someone that cares about their car would do that. The rear bumper is harder to explain, but probably just backed into something at low speed. Any "rear ended" accident would be reported, as it wouldn't have been "at fault" on the part of the truck.

There would be absolutely no structural / frame damage from these two happenings. I understand them wanting to knock a little bit off of a normal trade-in, but this seems a bit much.

If traded in for $14,000, you bet your ass Carmax is listing it for $22,995 the next day.

They do a horrible job maintenance wise, they put cars on the lot with problems they missed, and their extended warranty is one of the best. Other than that you nailed it.

Their protection plan is a rip off. Their maintenance on cars is as good as a manufacturers certified pre owned. Other than that you nailed it.
