I think concentrating on development is good. I think forsaking a season, maybe two with the future in mind can be reasonable. 5 year plans are bad by their very nature. Nobody has 5 years to wait for something that is not even close to assured.

The Sox are not doing any better, imo

I like what they Angels, Blue Jays and Rangers have been doing in recent years. They all have a nice mix of spending/development.
So, just like America, you don't think the plan has worked.

Are you sure you aren't America?

Of course it hasnt worked.

You know when it has worked?

When they either

Win a World Series
Go to 5 straight playoffs

Im not America, because I think Kris Bryant will eventually be better than Marcus Semien

The whole point of the extended period of losing was to give them a future that was brighter than most other teams. They didn't according to you.

Honestly, I'm more optimistic about the Cubs than you. Don't tell leash that though!

Well, stop taking it so personally. You and jimmypasta are the two Cub fans not being conned.

Me, Jimmy, Curious Hair, BadRogue, and many more

Also the attendance numbers and TV ratings suggest there is a large contingent of fans not being conned

CH has ripped the plan for a long time. CoF seems largely unimpressed by the TheoJed regime. JimmyPasta and so on

I distinctly remember the estimate at 3 years.

Then, when things admittedly (by administration itself) fell behind schedule, suddenly the plan became intertwined with the whole rooftop issue with delays in the capital improvements being used as a justification for delays for on field success.

Most in the Chicago media are Cub fans. And regardless, the media has influence. If the Sox are losing they're "bad, just bad." If the Cubs are losing, the narrative is about how they're building something better. This isn't a new phenomenon. It's just gotten to a ridiculous point with the deification of Theo Epstein.

If you asked a media honcho why they give more coverage to the Cubs, he'd tell you because there are more Cub fans. But that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The coverage is a type of advertising. Besides that, a guy like bernstein is only audience driven when it suits him. Because believe me, his audience is not interested in non-stop talk about CTE or child rape or wife-beating.

This is the Bucky Chris narrative. The Plan is whatever Theo says it is at a given time. And since it's Theo's Plan, it's a good plan.

Every fucking team has a goddamn plan. You would think the Cubs were reinventing the wheel.

This is the part that I will never accept. The(o) Plan is bad because winning in the future did not and does not require the losing. There is no greater evidence of this than Kyle Schwarber.

Revamp the entire minor league system and method of scouting. That is a great plan that should reap untold rewards. Don't tell me those great methods and scouts cannot find a player outside of the top 5 because: 1. then they aren't that great and 2. there are other teams who regularly do well drafting outside of that area.

This plan does not suddenly get washed clean if the win. It is bad at its core.

Did you miss the 80's and 90's when the Cubs were frequently labeled "loveable losers"

Were they building something then? I know McPhail got some love but before that. Bad was just bad.

And it doesnt matter that the media has influence. Clearly not enough for guys like me or Curious Hair or Jimmy.

You shouldnt make every Cub fan answer for your issues with the media. Talk to Bucky Chris or Denis about Bucky Chris or Denis expectations. Dont make me answer for them. Apply the same rule to the media.

Its just lazy and bullshit to read an article or radio show of one guy saying the Cubs are destined for success and the next words out of your mouth are "That's why Cub fans _____"

Its not Cub fans. Its the media. And no matter how much you want them to be the same, they are two separate entities.

Not accurate

Whittenmeyer has always been a negative guy, even before the Theo regime. Some are just tired of him

That is probably the worst analogy in the history of CSFMB and that is saying something.

Cub fans ___

Im a Cub fan. Im not like that. And its not just me and Jimmy and its not a minority.

You're trying to continue your dishonest campaign that Cub fans are idiots by excepting me and Jimmy but its still bullshit.

Cub fans are just like every other group of fans. Im sorry to break this news to you.

That's utterly ridiculous. It's not a minority of Cub fans that are on board with the lengthy losing on purpose. It's not a minority of Cub fans on this board. You're being silly. You can hear Cub fans on the radio everyday cheering a new creation called "tank wins". You can read posts about how this is "the right way". You're the minority.

Indeed. I am on record as being 100% on board with the Plan. Nothing guarantees success in professional sports, but I believe the Plan is the right approach for the Cubs. I am not going to argue with BRick and JORR (again) about it as I can't prove that it's the right way to go. Only time will tell if the Plan was correct.

BTW, my buddy just got a call from the Cubs about season tickets. It seems a lot of people have dropped off the list. I put myself down for ten games for 2015. My Cubs gang is quite excited about the future.

See this is total bullshit and deep down you know its true.

You're basing your shit off of a few radio callers (and if were being honest you're basing 98% of it on Sox fan Dan Bernstein)

Its DEFINITELY a minority on this board. Ive proven that. Youre choosing ignorance, now.
Not sure how many times I have to make the list where there are 10 regular poster that are negative and two that are positive.

Its at LEAST a 5:1 ratio

I show you quotes of negativity from Cub fans and you ignore it.

Then you go so far as to say that even Joking about them being successful is "kidding on the square" and they really mean it.

You are absolutely WANTING to paint Cub fans as dumb and you will go to insane illogical levels to do so.

No it won't because he purposely gave up the chance to win 8.

We all heard it here, RPB believes they will win 5 straight world series

I was kind of thinking that it is wrong to consider me "dumb" for believing in the plan. It's just a difference of opinion on the chances of success in that strategy.
