Im quite certain KD and BigFan will back that up (KD already said it)

RPB, shut your hole up and actually listen to what people like me and dennis are saying.

I've never called this the right away, or the best way, or the only way.

But it is a plan, and the Cubs organization has never had a plan since I've been alive. Nothing they've done the 103 years before Theo has worked. It was time for something, anything, that can be considered a strategy. This is what Jed and Theo picked. And so they have my full support until it doesn't work. And then they pay with their jobs.

But I believe that this plan gives the Cubs the best chance they've had in 106 years.

I like my GTI. Doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer an Audi R8.

That is The Plan, isn't it?

Please clarify to IMU. He's not understanding what you mean.

JORR's Theory
The majority of Cub fans (on and off the board) believe that the losing for years was necessary and it was specifically the right way to go about building a contender.

Is that right?

Can't say whether that is negligence on his part or just lack of access.

Well under this fucked up poll created because of some weird dick comparison between you and JORR - I guess I'm somehow a no.

But I support any and all reasonable plans that will increase my chances of seeing a consistent winner on the North Side.

I believe this plan qualifies as that.

Arrieta

This is just bizarre.

rpb is basically now arguing that pretty much all Cubs fans don't like the plan.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WHITE SOX SUBDIVISION IS SAYING AND GETTING RIPPED FOR SAYING!

So if they are in the playoffs next year and I book a plane ticket to come back from Antigua just to see the games, should I not enjoy them as much because we missed the chance to be mediocre in one of the 3 years prior?

My position is not new and basically hasn't changed since the get-go.

I was just teasing. I don't mind "the plan" but just can't comprehend how the Cubs have to suck during the development time.

The laughability of your not minding the plan aside ...

I guess I'm just not into "hot-shotting" for a title run and ending up like the Rangers, but instead slow-burning things and trying to be the Braves. Yes, I realize the implications of both comparisons, but I'm not comparing results, just approaches.

As far as the Cubs "having" to suck, I never once understood it as part of Theo's plan to make them better; rather , I took it as a necessary consequence of asking Ricketts to spend later by not spending now. It's not the Cubs sucking that makes them better, it's Ricketts not wanting to always spend all the time, just when it's conceivably most opportune.

I get the stereotypical vapid smugness from Sox fans that spend a lot of time saying they're not interested in Cubs business as that's part of that personality type and dismiss it accordingly. I guess I thought more Cubs fans - beyond the relative few thoughtful ones - would at least latch onto waiting just a little longer, considering the "wait'll next year" mantra broken out oftentimes by June 20th, this time around as there was some promise of reasoning and some pedigree of success behind it for a change.

In the end neither myself nor anyone else here really knows their ass from a hole in the ground as to (a) what's going to happen, and (b) why it's really happening. It's just bluster and board-filler. Still, it's better than political talk or ike threads. Then again, so is polio.

Inaccurate

Im saying that Cub fans dont believe the losing was necessary and the only way or right way to compete, like JORR seems to think

You can think rebuilding the minors is a good idea without thinking you have to lose for years to do it.

That's the con though, isn't it? That the best they could have done was be mediocre. Maybe their best chance to win a World Series was last year but they weren't trying.

I've viewed it this way. If you gave me two scenarios in which the Cubs win the World Series:

1) Hired hands of high priced free agents from other major league teams,
2) Drafted young players developed within the Cubs system,

I would take either. I prefer the second because I tend to fall in love with players who come up through the system more than a guy from another team. But I would celebrate each team equally. I think the first plan is a quicker path that has a better chance of quick success with less potential regular season downside. I think the second is more sustainable from an economic standpoint with a better chance of long term viability, but also with a greater chance of many losing seasons.

It is much easier to whip out a checkbook and buy a team then to draft and develop a team.

List of Cub fans who have explicitly stated that losing for years was unreasonable and not necessary
Jimmy
rpb
KD

Dr Ken

List of Cub fans who have said they dont mind the losing
denis

Yes, the list of Sox fans who don't mind the Cubs losing. I fully support the past 3 years of the plan.

Castro was here, Baez was already being considered a cornerstone and he came here knowing he had the second pick in the draft (or whatever Almora was). Let's dispense with the The(o) as an innocent dupe argument
