Premiere on now. I'm intrigued thus far.

i couldn't get through 3 minutes of it. why does everyone have to sound like they're in a phone commercial? i kept thinking one of them was going to drop "framily".

had all the cliches of the "family comedy sitcom", and added in the modern sitcom cliches that have driven me away from the genre. this was as bad as "the michael j. fox show".

Of course you wouldn't like it, Zack.

I thought it was funny. Looking forward to more.

maybe if there was an ounce of originality in its approach, it'd be possibly digestible. it's typical canned predictable sitcom drivel. only now since it's cool to not have a laugh track, you just have the narrator.

i fear that we are losing what comedy is in this age. somehow it requires self aware banter that shouldn't make it past the table draft and is meant to pass as a joke. i've seen it in most recent sitcoms, including "the goldbergs" and "modern family", "archer", and anything that seth macfarlane does.

btw, wasn't that whole thing about field hockey totally gut-busting? sure to make a top 10 moment of 2014 sitcom history.

 I don't think he does. It all kind of sucks now. There isn't a lot for a family to sit down and watch. I miss 80s sitcoms. He probably hates those.

i don't hate "portlandia". in fact i think it's probably one of the more clever shows in years. probably since the first couple years of "the office" and "30 rock".

as canned as most of them were at least there was variety. and there were superior shows like "the cosby show", "cheers", and "the wonder years", "diff'rent strokes" along with "family ties" that were well done. i mean shitty ones like "who's the boss", "alf", "mr. belvedere" and "silver spoons" even had a funny premise and were fun-bad.

and "married with children" was great as well.

Parks & Rec is fun for the whole family. And if anyone hates 80's sitcoms then there is no hope for them, though I do believe Zach is a fan of Perfect Strangers. Then again, who didn't love the misadventures of Cuzzin Larry Apleton and the Fresh Young Belki B?

They were all pretty much the same show. I loved all of them, but they were mostly the same.

I still hate the wonder years.

i would do a huge write up on sitcoms...i won't waste bigfan's bandwidth with my thoughts. but i have always endeared myself to them. hell the 90's had a slew of great sitcoms besides the obvious "seinfeld" and "frasier"--"newsradio", "spin city", "third rock from the sun", and into the 00's with "malcolm in the middle" and "that 70's show". all were competently done, by comedy writers. i don't know what happened to the comedy gene pool but i am going to go ahead and blame the institutionalization of comedy workshops. people who pay money to go through a program to get connections and jobs that they don't deserve, because they're easy to work with. it's devoid of originality and creativity...but it thrives as a business enterprise.

according to seacrest, i still have yet to make 2 people laugh. i don't know. i have some youtube videos of some standup that may disprove him.

however, the only bit of evidence i can offer is that i wrote my own "curb your enthusiasm" episode and posted it last year to my website...this is the link:

W_Z's Fan Fiction

if ya'll think it sucks, then disregard my thoughts on the 21st century sitcom. however, like ignatius reilly, my valve will not be compromised.

Getting mad at sitcoms for being formulaic seems like something people who spell comedy with a capital "C," or refer to it as a "craft" might do. Even if the practitioners are smart, comedy and rock and roll could and should be dumb.

I'm as hard on regular TV as the next guy but I actually enjoy "The Goldbergs". The writing and acting is
below par but I enjoy that time frame and they do it well. It is supposed to be fun bad in a way.
