You created this whole thread with a simple YES or NO answer. It literally does fall into two categories.

No, I didnt.

Realistically, if you still think the plan could work then your answer is "Maybe". It certainly is not a "No".

I guess I'm just not going to understand how you can think the plan is decent and that you do not believe in it.

I believe in the focus on development and trying to build from within. I dont think it should take this long though. In fact I KNOW it shouldnt.

Put me in whatever category you want.

This is the type of thinking that is so stupid.

I completely get being frustrated with the plan and not agreeing with it. But to say that it fails if in the future they win some titles is just stupid.

If they win just one it is a HUGE success.

I believe most Cub fans like the part of rebuilding the minor leagues but think it could have been done another way or without so much losing

Wouldn't you agree?

Yeah, but in my world Theo Epstein would be on a hot seat, yet in the the real world he still has all of his golden boy luster. Would you at least agree that there is something with the majority of the Cub fan base that I'll call "The Epstein Paradox" wherein they love Theo and his plan in spite of the fact that a core component of that plan was to be awful for three or four seasons which they hate?

That's fine. Jimmy won't be allowed on the bandwagon. He's banished.

Ricketts knew going in there were certain landmark (i.e., museum-type) restrictions. I'm sure Sam Zell would have loved to make changes at some point too.

Right. And they make more money than any other team because they play in a museum in a neighborhood that no other baseball team has.

Sure. But that's no a litmus test anyway. Dale Sveum wasn't given reasonable resources to win and he got shitcanned anyway.

If someone hits a 20 in blackjack and gets an ace, that doesn't mean it was a good decision.

That seems simple and obvious, but at any racetrack there are guys who have been around for thirty years making similar decisions race after race and they'll argue with you about it.

Well, I think a GM gets a longer time than a manager. Generally I think after 5 years you can judge.

I dont think Epstein has made any moves bad enough to say we gotta get this guy out

He has made one major move, signing Jackson. So because he is not trying to make moves gives him a free pass? He better do some things this off season.

It's so absurd for him to say that. A lifelong Cubs fan who has been through all the misery states that even if a plan wins 3 titles, it is a failure. Lay off the pipe jimmy.

He's made quite a few trades that have worked out very well

Cashner for Rizzo
Feldman for Arrieta and Strop
1 year of Sean Marshall for 5 years of Travis Wood

I agree on this off season

There's got to be some secret contest I'm unaware of that pays good money for posting the dumbest things more often than anyone else, apparently with a percentage bonus for most exasperatingly incongruous back-to-back sentences.

No, you're right; the plan fails even if they win 3 WS in a row. You're clearly onto something ... or on something anyway.

It's kind of like watching 3 seasons of a terrible TV show that suddenly improves in the next 3 seasons. I can't unwatch the first 3.

To any Cub fan who thinks that even 1 WS wouldn't cancel out 3 years of losing, consider the following scenario...

Fast forward to 2016. The Cubs just won their 1st WS in well over 100 years. Through the power of time travel, you are given the opportunity to go back to 2011 and change the course of history. You can make the Cubs compete immediately, but you run the risk of not winning the World Series in 2016.

You gonna take that deal? If the answer is yes, you're nuts.

What you are saying is basically my point. How can you say you don't believe in Theo's plan, and be right if that plan wins the World Series?

It's a great plan if it wins the World Series. The doubters would be idiots. The doubters would not be right.

Me too. In fact any legal plan that wins the World Series would be a plan that I support.

I dont doubt that Theo could win a World Series or build a perennial contender with the Cubs. I wouldnt doubt any GM with a successful past. But sucking for at least 3 years is unnecessary.
