I don't completely disagree, but if they won a WS, would you be willing to go back and take that chance for a few years of being decent?

Can a thread comprised entirely of horrible thoughts still be good? Even when it's wrong, it's right!

Not even a few years. If they were .500ish this year that would be reasonable I think

Right. And they make more money than any other team because they play in a museum in a neighborhood that no other baseball team has.

How did you decide that they make more money than any other team.

Forbes has them eighth in operating income.

Wait...is this now one of those threads that has you making up a bunch of financial shit like you did with Facebook?

I opt out.

I love that jimmypasta and IMU both think the plan is a failure if they win one WS, but for hugely different reasons.

Was RPB trying to apply to Team Cocaine with his work in this thread? Gotta think hes a lock if so.

I'm going to get shit for this from both sides of town, but even if the Cubs win the World Series in the future (and I don't think they will with this bunch), it'll be tainted to me because of what they're doing to Wrigley Field and to their neighborhood. They're killing the golden goose of the Wrigley experience, they're insulting people's intelligence, and they're treating a living neighborhood as their personal theme park. It sucks. I hate these owners so much.

Of all the statements in this thread, this caught my eye.

If the Cubs win the World Series and as a fan you feel it's diminished because the Cubs added a video board or a few signs that end up disrupting the view of the rooftop bleachers, then I assert that you are not really a Cubs fan. Instead you are a Wrigley Field fan or Wrigleyville fan.

I couldn't care less if the Cubs won the World Series in Wrigley, Rosemont or the Cell. If the Cubs win the World Series at Wrigley with a video board replaying the last out, are you really going to think "Yeah they won, but look at the replay!"

When the Cubs win and they are showing the replay on the video board, I will be crying and jumping around like a maniac. Literally my last thought would be about Wrigley Field or Wrigleyville.

But when you say dumb shit like this, can't I just flip it and say you're not a Cubs fan, you're a fan of Chicago-based National League baseball? Because it's all about the gestalt with the Cubs: the park, the neighborhood, the losing legacy, WGN, the dopey fans, all of it. It's a package deal. If I didn't give a shit about all the stuff that makes the Cubs the Cubs, I'd just be an Oakland A's fan because they don't suck like the Cubs do and I like their GM and their hat. "I wouldn't care if they won it in Rosemont," fuuuuuuck you.

So, hypothetically, if Wrigley got hit by a freak weather event and was destroyed, you would cease to be a Cub fan?

Or do I have that wrong?

And you dont have to cling to negatives to stay a Cub fan. You could just stay a Cub fan because generally in our culture, we like to be loyal in those situations.

What is awesome about that?

Im not a Tear down Wrigley guy but CH is clearly waaaaay more into the Wrigley experience than the baseball team

He's literally saying he'd be unhappy with a Cubs World Series if it happened in another park

Far more deserving of the fuuuuuuuck you, imo

Im sure the generations of dead people who never saw them win would have my back on that.

Advocating a relocation to Rosemont just checks off all my asshole boxes. People who think baseball owners should be accountable to no one but themselves by dint of their sheer wealth? People who want to take things away from Chicago and add them to the suburbs? The idea that you should go to a baseball game to watch TV? More traffic and parking lots blighting the earth? These Cubs fans sound like Braves fans.

But this started with a definition that included believing "that the losing was necessary and the right way to rebuild."

I agree on all that but I just feel like, being 106 years and all, the Cubs and Cub fans are the last ones to be making specific demands about how and where they want to finally win one

Wrigley Field basically defines the Cubs though. I can't blame a guy for not being happy that is going away.

I am. Now maybe we can replace the current definition of the Cubs with "perennial winner."

Yes. This started with JORR trying to say that all Cub fans are being conned by Theo

I said that there is a significant portion of fans who dont worhip Theo. This thread was his response.

A YES vote means that you think Theo is a genius and that losing on purpose is the right way and furthermore, the only way to build a contender. Also you think they are all but guaranteed of success
