So what are the plans going in to 2015?

Is Theo still "flipping"?

Would it kill him to say we will pursue some missing pieces in the offseason?

Will your view on the front office change if no major moves made?

Just asking

Smart moves please.

I know Lester is the popular choice, but I havent got into Lesters stats and age?

Maybe a trade with the Mets for one of their top pitchers and they need a SS.

Actually, my view would stay the same...that they are cheap bastards. Anything less than two stud starting pitchers (Price, Scherzer, Darvish) would be an insult to fans. And it will be interesting to see how long they stick with Baez and Alcantara, who have been disasters thus far. Finally, Kris Bryant must be on the opening day roster.

Scherzer...OK...but what did he turn down? 7 years $160 mill? LOL....someone said no to $160 mill...for how much more? Maybe $40 mill more over 7 years? $5m+ a year more? What do you miss out on in the $27 Mill club that they dont have in the $20 m club?

In the last few weeks, they have been on every station multiple times, and have done interviews with writers talking about the offseason. Just do a quick google search.

Yeah, I never understood that move...he's had a really good year, but not really dominating (meaning a Pedro-type year), and is a year older. I think he'll be lucky to get the same offer he turned down. Not a good risk/reward ratio.

Let me know what the Cub's front office has said. I did a Google search before posting this and I watch sports everynight. I have not heard direct quotes from anyone that matters!

What,he is lying? If it looks like a duck....

I have more faith in Alcantara than Baez but both need more time.

I agree. Both need more time. Making a decision to give up on either of them right now would just be silly.

Not saying Cubs should give up on them yet, but how much time is enough? Is there a precedent for a player getting 200+ at-bats, hitting <.170, OBP < .230, striking out almost 50% of the time, and later becoming a productive player?

Sandberg was 1 for his first 40 or something like that but you might be right.

if you're lucky you'll get pitching, cuz that's what this team needs. idk if they'll go the marquee route (scherzer) and that whole display with HEY LOOK WE WERE FINALISTS FOR TANAKA despite no real interest was something that would worry me as a cubs fan, but yeah, worst case scenario is edwin jackson is still in your opening day rotation and you see what a daily lineup with alcantara/baez/soler/bryant can do and ideally you'd make some cromulent arrieta/hammel-at-worst moves for pitching this season.

"it's gonna happen" cuz "why not us?" and etc etc. but yeah i'd be afraid of them trying to milk one more year of using that $4mil/yr for theo to save $25-50mil/yr on payroll.

@JordanBernfield: Theo: "Our expectation is that Javy will be on the club as our 2nd baseman." #Cubs

@TheCCO: Epstein: Adding on-base percentage will be focus for the #Cubs

@BleacherNation: Epstein indicates that just because Cubs have 3 OFs that could start next year, that doesn't mean you stand pat there.

@TheCCO: Epstein: #Cubs plan to be involved in free agency. Time to add impact talent from outside of organization. Will not sell out for '15

@TheCCO: Theo Epstein: #Cubs goal is to win the NL Central title in 2015

Interesting way to look at it.

@TheCCO: Epstein: Feels #Cubs have done 5-6 years of work in 3 years. Feels like a little ahead of where they expected

@MLBBruceLevine: We are making our plans for 2015 with Starlin Castro as our Shortstop - Theo

@JordanBernfield: Theo says Addison Russell will work at 2B and 3B in spring training next year. Coming to ST as a short stop, though. #Cubs

And a #1 catcher who isn't a catcher and a #1 3rd baseman who isn't a 3rd baseman.

hey didn't we just spend a whole season collectively blowing a legendary yankee shortstop who isn't technically a shortstop?

He was at one time though.

I dont care. If they hit like 3b and Corner OF, then the cubs can find a slick fielding SS to bat 8th

I think the Cubs have kind of gotten themselves in a bind where they cannot make any free agent signings for any position other than C. If they intend to see if Baez and Alcantara get it together, they cannot risk a large investment on a possible bench player.

I would expect the Cubs to look at pitching and possibly a C this offseason. Then next offseason, they will address the remaining holes in the line up based on the performance of Baez and Alcantara.

They can always sign an outfielder and trade a young guy

Which of Bryant or Soler do you think they would trade?

Alcantara
Almora (if he ever amounts to anything)
Baez (infield)

Its hard to say because almost every guy has been mentioned as an OF candidate

What do you expect the opening day outfield to be?

Opening Day: Coughlan, Alcantara, Soler
End of Season: Bryant, Alcantara, Soler (with Russell or Castro at 3rd)

I think the Cubs will give Alcantara and Baez another chance next season, so you have to plug them into the lineup. Which means the Cubs can't go get a free agent and tell them to sit on the bench. If either one of them continues to suck, then yes, the Cubs would trade them or sign someone to replace them. IMO, that won't happen this offseason.
