Is there a cap that can be purchased that prevents your hair from getting wet in any way? Are there other methods?

I think the showercap was a joke.

I do not know of any that are 100% air tight, but that might be a good thing (if air tight, might trap sweat/heat and make the head itchy/hot).
Is the concern not liking the hair getting wet or is it not wanting the chlorine to destroy hair?
If it's the latter, we have shampoo/conditioner stuff for our daughters that helps with that.

That's the alternative.

 That was a guess but I always remember the girls in HS doing that.

So...this is totally a #blackpeopleproblems thing, right?

I don't recall seeing or hearing about this when we did the swimming stuff in high school.

When Black Women's hair gets wet, it turns to snakes because Hamm saw his father naked.

It's a relief to know this was about your daughter.

Cause we all know brothers can't swim.

Swimming in HS was about the dumbest thing we ever did. All those who couldnt swim sat in the shallow end, so it wasnt about teaching kids how to swim.

Guessing Dive teacher just liked seeing guys in school issued speedos.

Until this thread I had mercifully forgotten about how much I disliked swimming at ETHS. I was not good and the 20 minutes in the water in gym class did nothing to make me better. As a result I hereby nominate HS Swimming for the 2015 Tournament of Bad.

Swimming was great in gym class. We played Gutterball all the time. Two teams and the object was to hold the ball in the other side of the pool's gutter for like 3 seconds to score. It was rugby in the pool and we had a bunch of my fellow football players and future CTE havers in it. It was brutal.
