right on, futon! see we all know that ozzie loves the american system that has made him a milliionaire (and he got, what, 20-30mil in that last deal from the marlins for managing one single year?) this is the same guy who has said to the media before "fuck all y'all i got a yacht. in fact i'm going to go enjoy that in europe OK BYE!!!!!" so like, i really dont think a guy doing that well truly and fundamentally hates the country/system that got him to that position in life.

If you have any doubts Ozzie will manage again watch some of the 2005 postseason. He was masterful, that roster wasn't even worthy of the playoffs and Ozzie had them steamrolling everyone in sight.

weren't the twins within like 1 game of catching them for the division lead before falling off with 2-3 games to go? i wanna say it was run down to as close as one game near the very end, but then hey they lost only one game in the playoffs and jerry got his WS game ball and all that near-collapse nonsense was quickly forgotten.

Coming into the season? They jettisoned Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez in favor of Scott Podsednik and Jermaine Dye. That roster, particularly the lineup, was more parts magic than it was good.

The pitching was fantastic though, and the bullpen was lights out.

i'll always remember seeing them on something like april 20th 2005 (cuz you know i'm always very festive on hitler's birthday) and watching them and literally blogging "this is the type of team that can go and win a world series" --- i can dig up the actual blog as proof if you want.

they sure as hell proved me right. even if i don't remember who they almost collapsed to in the last week or two. i now seem to remember mike north holding their feet to the fire re: that subject. does that happen in chicago sports talk anymore since the bernsteinization of the score?

I would say the bullpen had everything to do with Ozzie. He used them perfectly. He also didn't freak out everytime his starter gave up a baserunner after the 7th.

They didn't almost collapse. The Indians played about .700 baseball for the last two months.
