it may not be at the start of the season, but I'm going to get to being a casual observer

Are you white and suburban enough? Does your wife/girlfriend think any of the players are sexy? They have strict standards for this stuff.

Definitely. Hockey is a much better "TV show" than football is now, thanks to high definition, big screens, and better camera work. Three 90-second timeouts per period, two 17-minute intermissions, and action the rest of the time. You're in and out in two and a half hours and didn't spend most of it watching guys stand around slapping each other's asses.

Still can't see the puck in motion.

It seems about half the time you only know there was a goal because the people on the ice reacted that it was.

Certainly the case for Kane's championship-winning goal in 2010 (not even all the people on the ice reacted to that), but you learn to recognize goals when you learn to recognize scoring chances, which comes with time.

Football is made for tv, while hockey is much better in person. That being said, it does get a lot easier to follow the more you watch it.

I am going to poke and prod CH all season to try to rile him up. Nothing physical, just my usual CSFMB banter.

You don't just give hockey a try. You either commit to the Indian, or you don't.

It's an 82-game preseason. Just keeping us entertained through a long and brutal winter. All is well. All is well.

It seems like hockey is on pace to be more popular than baseball too.

Q attention whore vibe.

Bigger deal would be if CH promises to give CFSMB Hawks bar watch 1 try.

I don't care if it's just the regular season. Every game vs the Blues is the most important thing in the world.

I am buying CH whatever food (even if we go to Fox) and alcohol that he wants for the night. We must inject Hockey Gay into the mix.

I have a lot more free time this year so I'm down. Be awesome, for sure, if CH showed up just once.

I'll buy for you as well, as long as you promise to have a safe ride home. Your binge drinking scares me.......and the world would be a lesser place without Hockey Gay.

I drink like 10 times a year! Excess in moderation.

Maybe I'm just a sensitive bitch but denisdman is treating me like a medical oddity as of late.

That made me laugh. Ok, I'll lay it out there. You seem like one of the most cultured and intelligent posters on the boards. In some ways, that conflicts with you being an avid hockey fan. You are quite picky, whether that be geographic regions or music. Whatever ails you, a big hug from a drunk Hockey Gay will make it all better!

yeah but does rebecca lowe care about the sport? she certainly puts the "mother" in "cultural mother nipple" in regards to those top lads on the other side of the pond who we descended from. in much the same way hockey descended from soccer.

Image

i remember that hawks playoff game where it was like "ok we can't review this play by rule, so we're going to review this play and get it right" and then on both the NBC/TSN broadcasts at intermission a panel of 3 rugged men all assured me that THE LEAGUE WAS RIGHT AS THE LEAGUE IS ALWAYS RIGHT (TM) and seriously dude, if you wanna hook me in give me some MILF with a gilded accent instead of faux-authoritative assurances that the NHL has always been at war with eastasia.

You're best consumed in person. I fear CH will be a let down in person because he can't possibly spew such wonderful prose for three periods of hockey.

I think what I need is a session with hockey fans who actually know what the hell they are talking about, where I can ask questions about even basic points of the game without intolerant responses...you know, like you would do with your children if any of you could reproduce/find someone to reproduce with you

You can ask me a few questions right now and I'll try not to answer any of them with "it doesn't even matter because the Hawks are doomed."
