I like CH's thoughts on Lake Geneva. He makes it sound like Hell on Earth.
Yeah. The funny thing is that I know people who have actually said "I want to go to Lake Geneva". I've never heard anyone say in June that they want to take a nice vacation to Green Bay. My guess is that once you get past Milwaukee there is a big sign that says "There is no Packers game this weekend, what the hell are you doing?"

No apologies for perceived hyperbole. Fine place to visit for a weekend, but it was a terrible, terrible place to grow up.

People vacation in Door County, which is sort of near Green Bay, but there's no non-Packers reason ever to go to Green Bay. It's like going to Moline.

I can't counter your logic. I have only visited briefly, and I consider the place to be quaint but touristy. As for Central and Northern Wisconsin, it does not do it for me. I hate pontoon boats, I don't fish or hunt, and the women are unattractive cows. The only thing I love about visiting my father in law's lake house is drinking beer with my family. Since I can do that at in Chi-town, I prefer to skip the three hour drive.

Pretty sure I told this story here, but it's worth repeating: While working at Walmart as a teenager in Rockford, I came across a young girl in her Packers' cheerleader outfit, and I told her "Packers? They suck!" Her mother was not pleased, and went home and called the manager to voice her displeasure. Said I cursed at her daughter  . I was told that even though I meant no harm, to just keep the comments to myself.

In hindsight, telling a 4 or 5 year old that something sucks is was dumb, but I'm sure she'd heard worse, and 18 years after the fact I'm imagine she's doing a lot of stateline suckin' if you feel me.

Lake Geneva is pure Wisc Tourism trap. Shockingly bad food, way too crowded, lake is too crowded little to do.

Assuming I had a lakeside house/cabin rental, baot, and brought my own food for grilling, I would go to GB in a second, over a weekend in LG!

Wisconsin is great. The fishing, hunting, Summerfest, Cubs/Brewers games at Miller Park. Lots of good things there to visit/enjoy. I'm moving to Winnetka next month, so I'm sure I'll be going to even more Cubs games at Miller park than ever.

Wanna bet? I bought a foreclosure off Hubzu that I am going to be rehabbing. Always wanted to do it and finally am doing it. Just picked up kitchen Cabinets today from a salvage company that removes all kinds of things from homes that are to be torn down. This one was in Hinsdale and the cabinets are beautiful maple shaker style cabinets in pristine condition. Already bought new tile for the kitchen too. Can't wait to get started.

Not surprised at all. Hinsdaleans have never met a beautiful old house they wouldn't tear down. Driving through there now with all these giant new/remodeled Victorians built cheek-to-jowl, it looks totally ridiculous. If it were a project for an architecture class, it'd get an F. New money, am I right?

The K900 is better than the E class or S class.
Still a Kia, and it will always be a Kia.

Just like when the Packers win the Super Bowl. They are still Wisconsin and always be Wisconsin.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11706 ... k900-sedan

Quote:
The latest endorsement deal for one of the most marketable athletes in the world might surprise a few people: LeBron James is endorsing Kia.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star signed a deal with the car brand to be the ambassador of its new luxury sedan, the K900.

LeBron James is reportedly quite fond of his new Kia. "He loves his cars," business partner Maverick Carter says, "he owns the K900 and he's a big fan."
James previously donated Kia cars he won as a result of winning the league's MVP Award to charity, but this summer, his business partner Maverick Carter said James -- a car enthusiast -- asked if he could get the new $66,000 car to drive around.

Kia, which is entering its eighth year as the official vehicle of the NBA, happily obliged.

"It was a great call to get," Tim Chaney, vice president of marketing at Kia Motors America, told ESPN.com. "We were not actively seeking another endorser, but LeBron told us, after driving the car around this summer, that he liked it so much, that we decided to partner with him. He brought us instant credibility."

In a statement, James said: "For me, a partnership has to be authentic and real to who I am and that's what makes this one so special."

James tipped his hand when, in August, he posted pictures of the car on an Instagram post.

"Rolling around in my K900," James wrote. "Love this car!!"

Terms of the multiyear, multimillion-dollar deal were not disclosed, but the company will use James in television ads, which have already been shot.

A source says the deal requires James to show up at Cavaliers games in the car. It's much like Tiger Woods' old Buick deal, which required the golfer to show up at events in the car brand.

The deal does not, however, require James to drive only the K900. He has a car collection with more than 20 cars that has included a Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, Maybach and Rolls Royce.

"This deal isn't a risk for us," Carter said. "He loves his cars, he owns the K900 and he's a big fan."

Carter said James used his influence to get one of his other sponsors to use the K900 in a commercial. James and "Mr. Monopoly" roll into Cleveland while sitting in the back seat of the car in a McDonald's spot.

Kia did some due diligence before signing James. Data the company got back suggested James was in the top 1 percent of celebrity influencers in the older car buying demographic (40+), which this car appeals to, Chaney said.

The pressure to sell Kia's highest-end product in its nine-car arsenal won't immediately be felt by James. Realistically selling a car for $20,000 more than you're next-highest priced vehicle is a hard job and will take time.

From January to September of this year, Kia had sold only 1,106 K900s in the U.S. compared to more than 122,000 of the Optima, the South Korean brand's most popular car which it happens to promote heavily through its deal with the NBA. As of now, the K900 currently represents 0.2 percent of brand sales in the U.S.

"This is not about just selling a few luxury sedans," Chaney said. "We are looking to LeBron to help boost our brand profile."

The 420-horsepower car has a V8 engine and comes with leather, wood trim and back seats that are heated and also recline.

Kia has grown exponentially in its 20 years in the U.S. and says it is on pace to have its third year in a row of selling more 500,000 cars in the country. It was just named the 73rd-most powerful brand in the world by InterBrand, ahead of the likes of Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson and MasterCard.

Although James has never had a car deal, he was connected earlier in his career to one particular brand after his mother bought him a $50,000 Hummer H2 as a gift during his senior year in high school.

Kia is also endorsed by Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin, LPGA golfer Michelle Wie and tennis player Rafael Nadal. The brand also sponsors tennis' US Open, the FIFA World Cup and the Australian Open.

James' current endorsement deals include Nike, Coca-Cola (Powerade), Beats By Dre, McDonald's, Samsung, Audemar Piguet and Dunkin Donuts in Asia.
