Never mind, the Isles traded for Johnny Boychuk instead. Got two seconds and a third. Fucking Bruins ruin everything.

So is this what a power struggle betwen StanBow and Q looks like? I don't want Leddy to be traded but that would have been a decent haul for him. Maybe StanBow is asking for the moon just so he won't be traded.

This is comical shit going on here. Let's give away a cheap 13th forward who does everything well enough for nothing, then sign Dan fucking Carcillo, then keep a failed project on the roster, then trade a well-above-average #5D, then not. Both guys here are giving in to their worst impulses here. It's a tug-of-war of dumb.

And man, the Isles gave up a lot for Boychuk. We can't trade Leddy there now; they don't even have picks left to trade anymore.

EDIT: Eklund is reporting that it's Leddy and Morin to Ottawa. I hope he's wrong on the Morin part, which he probably is, because he's Eklund.

EDIT AGAIN: Newsday reporting the Isles are back in it. This is wacky. What do they have left to give? Gotta be a forward prospect.

Official: #Isles acquire D Nick Leddy from CHI for D Ville Pokka, D T.J. Brennan and G Anders Nilsson.

Brennan is a big nothing. Rockford material. Pokka is a Finnish kid who hasn't played in North America yet. Nilsson defected to Russia over the summer rather than back up Jaroslav Halak and wasn't good in limited time. I think Bowman got skunked. Islanders are playing to win.

They have to. Their pick belongs to Buffalo for that stupid Vanek trade.

They've now given up their first to Buffalo, their second to Buffalo, and their third to Boston. They had another second-round pick from Philadelphia but traded that to Boston too. They might as well not even send a delegation to the draft.

At 25? Tweener. Future all-star with the Chicago Wolves.

Sounds like Pokka is heading to Rockford to keep Teravainen company at the Beef-a-Roo.

TVR will probably be the last cut because of his waiver exemption. So we've basically replaced Nick Leddy with Kyle "couldn't-crack-a-30-team-league-for-three-years" Cumiskey.

Also, in offseason moves that don't involve the movement of contracts, some drunk woman at a Blues game tried to slide down an escalator railing ass-first, fell off, and died. Now that's a bad offseason move! Maybe they can all ring a bell and count how many times her head bounced off the ground.

I hated on Q last year, and he helped ship out Leddy. I hated the Bick and Crow contracts and said it would cost us players. Now you see the impact of the Bickell contract. Enjoy.

I have no issues with the trade, it's decent. Leddy wasn't going to become the player we all hoped he would under Q and seeing him skate into the zone with ease time and time again only to do nothing with the puck or turn it over was getting tiring.

Dropping Regin and picking up Carcillo was a boneheaded move. I quite liked Regin but he was in Q's doghouse from the get go. Carcillo is bad.

Oh, what makes the trade decent is that Pokka has some really good potential, Brennan and bum goalie are irrelevant. You have to think Pokka is now one our top 3 prospects.

People are saying Pokka shoots up the list to our #2 prospect behind Teravainen, which takes a little bit of the edge off the trade for me. Filling Leddy's spot with TVR will also take some edge off, though it will mean not carrying a 23rd player if I've done my math correctly.

With Johns, Clendening, Pokka, and Dahlbeck all in Rockford, that team should be shutting the door on opponents. Time for that team to get serious.

The CI's writing style is really becoming unreadable. Maybe I've grown tired but their "unique" adjectives and nouns are becoming really annoying. They cause their articles to be exceedingly wordy and it's bugging the hell outta me. We get it. You guys are so edgy

Meh, I'm just glad they didn't find a way to blame this on John McDonough somehow.

I'm more upset about "gaining" Carcillo than losing Leddy. Both disappoint me, but we have enough young puck-movers in the pipeline that at least one of them will have enough defensive awareness for Q not to drop his third pair entirely; it's just a matter of how soon Clendening or van Riemsdyk can rise to the occasion. There's just no upside whatsoever to Carcillo being here.

I don't drink and I don't like college football. I'm wrapping myself in a fleece blanket, drinking tea, and working on crosswords. I'm fun.

Who the hell ever thought that Nick Leddy was worth $2.7M?

Anyone know if Carcillo's contract is non guaranteed? So if he sucks or another trade is made we can just cut and no cap issues?

All NHL contracts are guaranteed. However, he's only making $550,000, the league minimum. However, if he were to be waived and assigned to Rockford, he would no longer figure into salary cap calculations because his contract is worth less than $925,000, the new maximum allowance for cap relief on one-way players assigned or loaned to other teams. If, for instance, Michal Rozsival were sent to Rockford, the Hawks would still have to carry $1,225,000 of his $2,200,000 in dead cap space, which makes "burying" him in the fashion of Cristobal Huet a non-option, precisely because of what we did to Cristobal Huet (and what New York did to Wade Redden).

EDIT: I should note for the record that even the league minimum is too much for Dan Carcillo.

Is Carcillo going to block Morin from even being on the roster or are the 2 of them just going to alternate watching the game on tv from the bike in the dressing room?

With the way things are going, I won't be surprised if they trade Morin to the Capitals for a Geico Caveman tomorrow, but yeah, Carcillo would appear to be the 13th forward and slot in for more "physical" opponents, except that I'm pretty sure Morin is bigger than Carcillo, pretty sure he's willing to play physically, and definitely sure he's a superior hockey player. Putting him into the lineup immediately over a guy who has been here all camp and played well all preseason would be asinine, but I'm sure we'll hear that he "knows the system" or some shit. I've been a Q defender for a while but he's been up to some silly shit this month.

Good to see Peter Regin cleared waivers, by the way. He should be back up as soon as Carcillo does something idiotic. He's basically a picture-perfect 13th forward: good hockey IQ, conservative, natural center -- three things Dan Carcillo isn't. I smell a bit of collusion on the waiver wire this week: about a hundred guys cleared, some worth taking if you can get them without compensation, and the only two who didn't were Jack Skille (LI to Columbus) and that annoying shit Nate Prosser (St. Louis back to Minnesota). Hockey GMs just don't want to cause a stink.

Flames cut him from his tryout. He's now in camp trying to make the Wolves on an AHL contract (as opposed to making the Blues and being assigned to the Wolves). You know what, seriously, end this charade with that fucking washout Cumiskey and just sign Brookbank for the league minimum. He wants to be in town, he's a known quantity, he's a passable seventh defenseman, and Rozsival is already hurt so he'd already be back in his customary filling-in-for-Rozsival spot. Pull the trigger! Ahh!

Brent Sopel, for some odd reason, has come out of retirement and is also trying to make the Wolves. Let's not bring him back, though.

Incidentally, pairings with Rozsival out are 2-7, Hjalmarsson-van Riemsdyk, and Rundblad-Oduya, which I realize is necessary because a two-rookie blue line would be a Chinese fire drill but the whole reason Oduya is here and Leddy is gone is that he's become Hjalmarsson's Wondertwin. Sounds like a good time for a Steady Veteran Presence from Brookbank, if you ask me.

AHLer of the Year T.J. Brennan cleared waivers. Rockford's blue line now features Brennan, Clendening, Dahlbeck, Johns, Pokka, and Dillon Fournier, who was a 2012 pick who's supposed to be pretty good (or as good as defensemen out of the Q ever get). There's also a big 6'8" Swede named Viktor Svedberg on the roster. Boy, he'd be fun to have pan out.

At forward, they have Teuvo, Peter Regin, Ryan Hartman, Philip Danault, Joakim Nordstrom, and Dr. Rasmussen. Team's looking good. They'd better not play like idiots the way they always seem to. What's the deal with that?

Brandon Mashinter, who still exists for some reason, just went on seven-day injured reserve retroactive to last Wednesday, which takes the Hawks' roster from 24 down to the maximum allowed 23. However, they're still $47,628 over the salary cap, and you can't be one dollar over. They have about two hours to fix this. My guess is LTIR for Rozsival.

That's because Capgeek is listing TVR as a non-roster player. The Blackhawks' official roster has him listed, and while Capgeek is admirably hasty with updating after trades, I gotta defer to the official roster. If he's up, they're over the cap by $47,000 and change, and all indications are that Q is in love with the kid. If he's down, our third pairing is Rundblad and Cumiskey. Hope Duncan Keith likes playing 32 minutes a night!
