I stared reading the book Wed. Night and finished it Thursday.
It was awesome. I read the author's first book "Sharp Objects" yesterday.
I have Flynn's second book, Dark Places, that I will start today or tomorrow.
She's a pretty good writer.
Have to wait to see Gone Girl, the film, until my wife finishes the book.

My semi serious post above was my honest summarized reaction after watching this. I think those who have read the book will appreciate the attention to detail, though at some point I thought cutting twenty or so minutes out of the film wouldn't have made a difference plot wise.

I thought it was entertaining, though I agree with critics who say the film didn't really explore marriage themes as well as it could of, instead preferring to be too slick and self aware of the absurdity as opposed to teasing out all the intricate emotions of a complex relationship.

I caught this on Saturday afternoon. Definitely a great flick. But I thought the ending could have been done better. Everything just seemed very rushed, and some characters didn't get any resolution.

Also, Doogie Howser is a friggin moron.

I need to get out and see this. So how intense is it as far as thrillers go? My girlfriend hates the
type of movies where she is on the edge of her seat and won't see this one and I really hate
going ot the movies by myself. I made her sit down and watch The Game with me and she was
visibly shaken by the end and quite angry at me.

I would place this more in the mystery genre vs thriller. There are a couple scenes that are kind of edge of your seat moments, but otherwise you are just trying to figure out what people are up to as the movie is going on.

Ok, thanks. I will try to sell her on that then.

Terrible. I wanted to see it and was excited to see it. I cant get into my reasons too much for fear of spoilers but suffice it to say, I hated it. If we werent there with other people I would have walked out.

My invitation to the Mexico Orgy was lost along with the wedding invitation. Doug just must have the wrong address on file for me...

I would say this doesn't fit nicely, if at all, into traditional genres like suspense or mystery or whatever. Seems to me to be a nontraditional sort of psychological tale of one super complex person and her everyday complex spouse, with perhaps a hint of commentary on 24/7 media saturation.

It's all of that but none of it is done well. The movie could be several different things but instead it settled on being a stew made of shit and mediocrity.

More bad thoughts.

Saw the movie Saturday afternoon with GF. She had read the book, I have not. I really enjoyed the story and mystery. LOTS of product placement, but I didnt fund this film either. Serious flaws in the some of the case work by the police in the progression of the plot. .

Ending was unsatisfying and didnt end at the same point of the book I had a ton of questions, but I am also a simpleton. I would recommend the movie to watch for clues if you are in a relationship with a crazy lady. And... boobies!!

those were my exact thoughts about his "acclaimed" "the social network". i can't wait for people to snap themselves out of it and start throwing that into the 'most overrated films' pile. i'll be waiting with open arms.

i still want to see this, even though i've read mixed reviews.

I'm done with Fincher. Seven, Fight Club and Zodiac were a long time ago.

it seems like modern filmmakers buy into their own hype quicker and quicker and prioritize by being "acclaimed" rather than doing something you love. i don't know when the last time fincher's been passionate about a project, but it's definitely not showing in his recent work.

Same with Nolan. To me inception was awful. I get the wired amoral thing but truly boring.

agreed; "inception" was a bore. and i was not at all impressed with "dark knight rises" and have low hopes for "interstellar". these guys can get big bucks, big name actors, but they don't seem to do very well in the scriptwriting department anymore.

I never even saw Inception. Looked stupid.

Agreed with Dark Knight Rises as well. Worst of the Trilogy.
