Didn't want to deal with the strikeouts.

Source: Manny won't replace Mueller
Updated: October 7, 2014, 1:44 PM ET
By Jesse Rogers | ESPNChicago.com

CHICAGO -- Bill Mueller has resigned as hitting coach of the Chicago Cubs, but don't expect Manny Ramirez to be the one filling his shoes, a source told ESPNChicago.com.

A source close to the situation said the Cubs are already close to hiring a replacement for Mueller, whose resignation, a source said, came just more than a week after assistant hitting coach Mike Brumley was dismissed.

Ramirez received positive reviews from his stint with Triple-A Iowa this season, but a source said Ramirez isn't under consideration for Mueller's job. However, the source said Ramirez could be in the mix for the assistant hitting coach position.

Cubs president Theo Epstein has said he's waiting on Ramirez to officially retire before commenting on any future he has as a coach. Ramirez, through his agent, turned down a request for an interview.

The Cubs, who led the majors in strikeouts and ranked 28th in on-base percentage this season, will be hiring their fourth hitting coach since 2012.

Mueller and Brumley were hired last winter after the Cubs fired most of their coaching staff.

Mueller won a batting title with the Boston Red Sox and had a career .373 on-base percentage before moving on to the Los Angeles Dodgers' front office. He was entrusted with overseeing the debuts of several top Cubs prospects this season.

The Cubs said Sept. 30 that all coaches, except for Brumley, would be invited back next season. Mueller, however, decided to move on, according to the source, as he liked the comfort zone he had developed with Brumley.

Ok, thats weird! or he didnt want Manny as an Asst. I could see Manny as a good assistant, dont want him as the hitting coach....

Mueller, however, decided to move on, according to the source, as he liked the comfort zone he had developed with Brumley.

Sounds like they'll create a position to have Manny around to make sure that Baez gets his full potential.

I am OK with the "Papa Manny" hanging out...it's a good thing. When he sees things he talks about them, he shows them how he breaks down tape, etc....but Manny isnt the guy I want to give assignments to and they dont get done. He needs a new supplier too!

Mueller was always a guy who hit for a good average. Put the ball in play to all fields, with occasional power. To see the rate that the Cub hitters struck out at, was surprising. Certainly, the hitters take a lot of the blame for their poor approach. but Mueller certainly did little to alter their approach. I'll be interested to see who takes over this important position.

Well, I was happy with Mueller for most of the season, especially early as Rizzo and Castro were returning to form. And Coghlan and Ruggiano looked good at times. Even Castillo improved.

But I was waiting for Alcantara and Baez to 'look' like they were trying to make adjustments. I saw nothing.

The goal is to turn big swingers into good batters.

Deliverance is not meant for non-believers

In Vine Line 2:13-15, we are told of the means by which Theo paved the way for our deliverance:

"And you, being dead last in your division and no prospects in your farm system, hath he quickened together with Rickett's, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of Hendry contracts that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, trading them away to teams like the Yankees and Rangers; And still we have spoiled batting stances and no home run power, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

BE GONE BILL MUELLER -NON BELIVER BE GONE!!!!

Smart move by Mueller. He knows none of prospects can hit and that there's nothing anyone can do to make them hit, so he gets out of town before he gets scapegoated next season when they flop.

The evidence continues to mount that not only is a contending 2015 Cubs team an illusion, but that the team will continue to be terrible until at least 2020.

An average hitting coach could improve the basic approach of these young hitters. The Cubs need a real great one.

Must be going to work with courtney Hawkins, J mitchell and Matt Davidson.
