I'll meet my maker without ever having a hot dog boiled in duck fat.

Me too.
I am a bratwurst conna...conasseu...huge fan and I would never, ever stand in line on a sidewalk for hours for damn sausage.

There are a lot of places in this city that I love to eat at. I would not stand in line overnight to eat at any of them on their last day/night.

Stupid.

When I managed a night club people would wait outside in line, in the middle of winter for up to three hours to get in.

I'm pretty fucking cool. But I'm not that cool.

Yea, same. Most of us on this board live in or near Chicago. There's no shortage of great food, whatever it is you may be looking for.

There are plenty of real good hot dogs in Chicago,

To wait in line for his is really hard to understand.

I was on my way to have dinner at Russells in Elmwood Park and drove past Johnnies Beef and there must have been 50 people lined up outside. I dont wait for food unless it is high end.

It was in Roscoe Village before you hipsters found it, as they had a fire in Roscoe and moved to the California location.

According to Bernsie that's Wrigleyville.

It was on Roscoe in the heart of Roscoe Village, he didnt have nearly the variety and he was always busy but not like it was on california, it was more of a hot dog stand, not elk Sausages and duck fries.

I still say he shut down before the IRS came after him. All cash drawer, all taxes included.

Doug's final order: one char dog with everything, one Paul Kelly and regular fries.

I will make a prediction right now that he cannot just ride off into the sunset and enjoy all the cash he has stolen over the years. He loves the spotlight too much no matter what he says. He's gonna be like that athlete that retires to "spend more time with his family", and then keeps making ill-fated comebacks. Whether that manifests itself as a TV gig or what, I'm not sure. But we haven't heard the last of Doug.

Never ate at Doug's but gotta think Jimmy's on Grand/Pulaski equal if not better. If Jimmy's was closing and there were hour long lines I would stay far away. It's a freaking hot dog, give me a break

It's not really a hotdog. He used to case his own meats and has exotic blends. Nothing like gene and Jude's or anything like that. I doubt he has sold many actual hot dogs.

Keep meaning to give Franks N Dawgs a try, but the hours and location have made that difficult. I liked it when it before it was FND, it wasn't anything special but they had a parking lot. Of course this was before there were any other stores in that area...now its basically a mini Woodfield mall.

Went to Doug's once, was good but not worth waiting a half hour let alone longer. I live about 4 minutes away, never had a desire to go back.

They are both ok. You can get good cased sausages at a lot of places that are really good you can grill yourself

For sure not, just taking a break before what is ever next....I kind of assumed it.

While I liked, not loved, HD's, it was terrible seating in there, thus the long lines. Seating 40 max? I could see him trying something he can sell, like a franchise looking operation, fast food....

I don't think Doug ever made his own sausages. He may have made a request for what he wanted from a vendor, but he wasn't grinding meat and stuffing casings.

Yeah, that's right, JORR. I never got the hysteria regarding Hot Doug's. I always thought his exotic sausages were mediocre, and that old school places like Poochie's were infinitely better with the basics.

Is Doug a good guy. He seems like a pretty normal guy who is happy for all the patronage but would privately mock the hipster following

Vapid people looking for the next "great" thing and locating it inside an all natural casing.

The owners of Fatso's last stand on Chicago Ave and Oakley are taking over Hot Doug's spot on December 1st.
