He was also talking on a cell phone. No indictment for that. I know the police have a tough job but shit like that just shouldn't happen. The gun was at his side and he had no time to react before bullets were fired. We should get more for our tax dollars.

I saw a video this week of an older white guy standing outside a gas station with a riffle on his shoulder. Some people called the police. When they showed up they didn't open fire. They actually talked to the guy for about 10 mins. The guy was grabbing his dick and cursing them out but he never moved the gun from his shoulder until he sat on the curb and eventually placed the gun on the ground. That's what good cops do. Protect yourself but also value the life of another human being.

The cop wearing shorts....just wonder if he was a bike cop. They seem to be even more assholes than the the regular guys as I assume the Bike cops dont usually get the first call for when there is a gun suspect....it sure does look like this guy went "Police Academy" on the kid and should be reprimanded accordingly.

I don't think he should go to jail, but it looks like a loss of job at the very least as he isnt capable of thinking clearly. Just can't send cops to jail if they are found to do a bad job. if it is found other reasons influence them, then they lose that protection.

I get that they shouldn't be indicted for everything but that cop wasn't disciplined in any way for killing an innocent man. A cop was fired and indicted in the link I posted earlier this week for opening fire on an unarmed man after a traffic stop. He didn't kill the man that was handing him his license but his actions were bad. I honestly feel that guy had a better argument for not being fired or indicted than the cop in the Walmart video.

it seems like the 911 caller may have instigated the whole thing, by lying to the responder that the guy was pointing the gun at people. while the gun-happy police should have treated the situation better, and not just started shooting...they thought they were responding to a hostile problem and were already thinking this guy was firing at people.

i watched some of the cardinals fans video. they actually chanted in cadence pretty well for a little while there. they should sample the exchange. but seriously...deadspin is so full of smug little pricks. the fact that they call themselves writers is a travesty.

Did we not already know that 5 second was illegal and there are stupid racist drunk people at most sporting events?

The caller should be charged with making a false report and should be sued. I'm assuming race was his motivation for making that call.

Apparently the police in Ferguson was unaware.

I am confused I thought your link to protest ruling and cardinals stuff were after the incident in Ferguson. They made a dumb 5 second rule and court shot down. Drunk Cardinal idiots. I do not see how either leads to the justice of the original issue.

You haven't been keeping up with this thread. I occasionally post an update on Ferguson but most of the things that have been posted in this thread recently is about reckless officers or police abusing power.

He should have been shot. I believe he fired 3 shots at the off duty cop.

That didn't look like a bad job. That looked basically like pre-meditated murder. The cop should face murder charges for that. That was not an accidental death, or a mistake. It's unfuckingbelievable how many excuses people will make for police these days.

This whole thing has just faded away as predicted. Nobody cares. That's the bottom line. Get a bunch of people together to protest....great. The looting made whatever message that might have been received, lost.

I am not making an excuse.

Seen reports of 2 of these incidents this week.....

The one in St Louis, where the cop said the guy reached into his wasteband as running away...which, to a cop is grabbing for a gun, in this case, the cop was right, the guy had a gun and fired 7 shots at the cop.

Then the terrible video from Hammond, where the officer breaks the glass as he said he saw the guy reaching for a backpack.

Now, do I think the officer in Hammond used that action as an excuse to break the glass, YES, he sure did. From his history, from the video of what happened, yes, I believe he should be looking for a new job as I think it is evident he was in no harm and went over and above what was needed at the time.

But in the first example. 3 people running from the police escalates the situation to where all movements, ect are then seen as a threat and the cop is doing his job. How he does his job from there is another question.

Saw that over the weekend. Love this kind of stuff.

Credit to the officer for handling the situation well. Probably a good thing for Gavin Seim that he doesn't look like Michael Brown or John Crawford III.
