So much for that.

That's great. It was probably photoshopped by Jay to avoid the accusations of nosepicking

See, I'm not too worried about Zombie Ron Santo because I'm pretty sure they didn't bury him with his prosthetics on.

One of the going cracks with this show is the caller who complains about the McCaskey's not spending money on this team. While you can't directly blame the McCaskey's for the fact that Cutler throws interceptions at the worst times, the defense hasn't been the best and the Bears can't close out teams, isn't there some indirect blame that could be argued for?

The Trestman hire was... odd. Also, he is only the 21st highest paid head coach in the league. Now, you may say, "pay doesn't equal success", but the coaches being paid at his level or lower are a combined 21-31 this season. Lovie even is being paid more than Trestman by $750,000. That doesn't seem like much, but realize the range of coach salaries is $3M on the low end and $8M on the high end. The top 10 highest paid coaches have a winning record combined. Prior to Trestman, they had three defensive coordinators, two of which were busts. Lovie took this team to a Super Bowl game, but after 2006, the Bears reportedly low-balled him with salary offers in the low $3M range. While people thought Trestman was a genius, I think we are seeing that he is just another ordinary coach. I'd be happy to ask Dan why the Bears aren't willing to pay more for a real, experienced head coach?

it seems very apparent phil emery has complete control of all player personel decisions... the last time the mccaskeys supposedly influenced football decisions was when they made phil keep lovie for a season

angelo and mostly emery now can be blamed for lack of talent.... they fired lovie when had I think 1 more season at $5M per...

I would think the low salary and 21-31 is related to first time head coaches not spending in general. Not all new coaches are paid like Kelly.

Right. I may have been stretching a bit for my point, but I'm just pointing out that you can't completely throw away the "McCaskeys are cheap" callers and think they should all blow their brains out. The renovation project could have also used a bit more money to get more seating and a dome.

Spare me the platitudes. Making fun of someone because they lost their leg to a disease is excellent comedic fodder assuming you can do it properly.

I agree. I can laugh at just about anything if it's presented properly. My problem with this show is the juxtaposition of Very Serious Radio where listeners and callers are lectured about topics like CTE, child rape, and breast cancer with guffawing Diabetes jokes. All I would ask of bernstein- or anyone else- is don't be so fucking holier than thou.

So just so I'm clear - regardless of how it happened, Ron Santo lost legs. I'm thinking that's a pretty bad thing and pretty traumatic for his loved ones.

Dan apparently thinks its ok to make fun of because Santo knew of the risks of a certain activity and chose to do so anyway resulting in serious medical and health issues that most likely caused great pain to him and his family and ultimately cost him his life.

That's funny right?

I'd like to hear Dan's thoughts about that when discussing his favorite group of 'discriminated Americans' - the gay community. Does he routinely make fun of gay men who engage in their risky behavior, contract AIDS and die? Was Philadelphia a comedy?

Just want to see if our selectively outraged cheerleader has any consistency in the tears he sheds.

It certainly contradicts his "monetize everything" agenda.

See, I think Cutler has the reverse diabeetus. He won against the 49ers and Jets in the evening but lost to all the other teams during the daytime.

Santo was such a terrible broadcaster though, while Jay is a tepid one.

However, here's a guy that makes fun of a man (who is dead, btw) using the fact that his leg was amputated as a result of a terrible disease. Seriously, that might be the most callous, awful thing one can do.

Should we make fun of Devin Still's daughter's lack of eyebrows? Isn't a physical malady as a result of a disease (one that Dan apparently cares so much about).

Seriously - he says dumb shit daily, but he should NEVER get let of the hook for specifically making fun of the fact that a man lost his leg to diabetes (and ultimately lost his life to it).
