C'mon, you can pretend that that a bunch of Saskatchewanites skating up and down an ice rink is exciting but we all know that nothing beats an 18-pitch at-bat interrupted by a pitching change and ending with a groundout to the 2nd baseman.

"it's just business it ain't personalllllllllll" - r-kelly

but yeah dude, seriously, from an unbiased 3rd party perspective you are really really REALLY prone to riding CH's nuts something horrorshow. did he run over your dog or something? is it some good-natured ribbing a la SHARK except that there aren't 5 people swooping in with the "not cool, dd" PMs when you do it? idk.

yeah CH's (hockey) posting proclivities are a bit atypical in that he knows his shit when it comes to hockey but really.... i mean, again from that unbiased 3rd person perspective it just seems a tad bit personal like he went all SHARK and, uh, showed you up at some point or something cuz the fact that you'll even offer unsolicited barbs at him in teh middle of a bears chat = you seemingly have something to prove with this one.... i just can't quite put my finger on it.

i suppose this is why my dad told me in a fit of "better late than never" parenting that i should never go around fingering random people on the internet. and the sad part is that 99% of y'all rubes, dignified or otherwise, prolly didn't have a dialup internet account with a unix shell (and if you did, you didn't use it) so the non-sexual double entendre of "fingering" is lost on you. #CestLaVie, no?

AND HELL YEAH DUDE WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 CUE UP THE CHELSEA DAGGER CUZ >WE< GOT A FUCKING POINT! FUTURE-RECORD-UNDEFEATED-STREAK STANDS AT 1! DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT DUH DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT (trying to hum out the chelsea dagger riff here)

idk. it's hard for me to get arsed about hockey during the regular season but i think this year i'm really going to try and consume the blackhawks' product because i'm pretty sure this is about the last real chance for a cup b4 the contract situation emulates pittsburgh and the hawks truly need some magic lightning in a bottle to reel off a cup.

again, thanks to CH for helping me learn some hockey with these game threads.... i appreciate the effort cuz i have little to no natural exposure to hockey in my day to day life, and while i'm not against hopping on the occasional bandwagon (seriously the suburban MILF ratios are off the charts) i would ideally like to understand hockey a bit more because i've gone and gotten into the mother nipple of all things hockey, soccer, and now that i know how that game works/flows/etc perhaps i can see how it translates to canadian stick soccer on meth, aka HARD HAWK HAWKEY.

Beauty from Kaner, hell of a night from Crawford. Feels a little like they stole one tonight, so I'll happily take the win without regulation/overtime credit.

Let us, if we may, take a look at defenseman TOI:

Keith - 29:40
Hjalmarsson - 25:06
Oduya - 25:02
Seabrook - 23:50
TVR - 11:43
Rundblad - 6:25

Nearly twelve minutes in your first career game on a Cup-contending team isn't shabby, but that 6:25 for Rundblad is. If Q can't trust his #6D with more than 6 and a half minutes out of 65, then seriously, just go fetch Brookbank back out of Rosemont. At least he can give you ten.

Also, we brought Carcillo back so that he could play two fucking minutes. He also got blown up on more than one occasion in that short time but failed to draw a penalty because surprise surprise surprise, refs are in no hurry to call penalties for a guy who hit one of their co-workers.

Also made a ridiculous cross-ice pass in his own end that the Stars couldn't do anything with, luckily.

I'm good with Car-Mom for the rest of the year

I know, and I don't think this counts as a shitlosing, but presuming that we'll get 40 games at best out of Rozsival, I don't like splitting 4/27 any more than I like not having a third pairing at all. Rundblad, TVR, and Cumiskey make too much project for one team. There needs to be a guy who's just a solid role-player rounding out that corps.

hey CH, do any of your oldschool/pre-lockout hockey fan friends actually like shootouts?

for me, they're telling me that the regular season = 41 chances per team to sell as many tickets/beers/sweaters as possible as having an accurate measure of the best teams via the point system <<< OMFG WE NEED CLOSURE! NO MORE BORING TIES BECAUSE IF A TIE IS LIKE KISSING YOUR SISTER THAN GARY BETTMAN AND THE NHL ARE STEADFASTLY AGAINST INCEST!!!!!

i just dont get it. the whole thing basically tells me "ehhhhh hey you know the point system will still get the best teams in the tournament and the rest? well win your shootouts, dumbasses"

so ~30yrs down the road when CH is world-renown as one of the best GMs in hockey and they're casting the movie of his unlikely story, who plays him? since we have no idea what his purported* corporeal form looks like, for some reason i picture that producer dude sam from opie and anthony playing him. or at least somebody with that look.

if CH doesn't have a big afro offsetting a short skinny frame, well then, life is far more boring and lame than i already thought!

* = i still hold out the hope that CH is actually a sentient hockey management simulator program that spawned consciousness and started posting on the CSFMB cuz if you think life drags ass during your boring-ass 9-5 job, well, imagine the sheer hell of being a sentient comptuer program who can perceive time at a way faster clip than humans. every second feels like an eternity to the program that would actually like to get popped in the jaw in order to understand what interpersonal human contact feels like, negative as it may technically be, at ieast it's off the axis! * sine waves to the CSFMB *

There is no "hockey" reason for a shootout.

Runblad is a fucking statue on the ice. I still cant believe he made this team. Not for long though.

I hope Crawford plays like he did tonight for most of the year. He was outstanding.

So? There's no natural reason for hockey. It's a game. People made it up. It's just a series of penalty shots, and I don't know what's more "hockey" than one guy trying to score a goal while another guy tries to stop him.

As long as shootouts are a special treat to determine a game that has gone a long time with two great efforts and needs to be decided by the purity of shooter versus goaltender, that's fine. I can't begrudge a game like that. It's the boring-ass slogs of playing not to lose and hoping the pucks go your way that I have no use for. There were 307 shootouts in 1230 games last season. The Hawks had 14 of those; the Capitals had an astounding 21. That's too many, but the solution is not to play three-on-three, because I've seen a hell of a lot more penalty shots than I have phases of three-on-three hockey, and it's sure as shit not to say that both teams played hard and everyone gets to go to Pizza Hut. Teams should just play to win. Not that hard.

Unrelated, but I'm checking out the schedule for this year and it looks like McDonough scrapped the "no starts after 7" initiative and it's back to 7:30 most nights. Maybe people were having trouble getting to the games on time (though I think the Bulls start games at 7 without incident). At least I don't see any of those bullshit 8:30 starts that we used to get when we'd host Vancouver/Calgary/Edmonton and had to accommodate CBC/TSN.

I had a ton of trouble getting to games at 7:00 last year. I leave from Schaumburg around 4:30 on weekday games, and I would just get to the lots around 6:30-ish. I prefer to have a few at West End Tavern and I park at that private indoor lot across the street. It sucks to just pull up to the UC and go right in. I love the pre-game scene at West End.
