I still have a brick from Old Comiskey. Wrigley bricks would fly off the shelves.

Talking with the steel guys at 7-11 this morning they are laughing about it.

The working guys always thinking the executives never know what they are doing, but this early in a project I feel there is a little more of that going on. Usually the start is the most harmonious.

Where's Julian Green? That lineup needs a little flavor.

Is that Kerry Wood on the right? Fulfilling the terms of that personal services contract in the desk drawer!

I'm a big fan of Casual Rahm. He looks like that hip high school social-science teacher who really prepared you for a college workload in a tough-but-fair-and-cool way and only made creepy comments to cute nubile 18-year-olds sometimes when he easily could've gotten away with it all the time. Not perfect, but better than looking like some private-equity buttmonkey.

Guessing Wittenmeyer will be checking the Wrigley dumpsters everyday for the next 6 months to see if the shovels get tossed. They can afford new shovels but not new players!!!!

It would have been great if the rooftop owners photobombed the thing.

If I were them, I would have put up big signs about the unfair Cubs so that every picture was ruined...maybe the inflatable rat unions put out in front of non union worksites.

Yes, ever since K wood moved to Winnetka he has been MIA, but I am sure he will be back when his cahrity event pops up, if his wife lets him out of her sight. She wears the pants there!

You should have seen the construction guys in the OF and in the street , they had to stop during the anthem and some were in RF. Of course they dont care as they are getting paid for doing nothing, but to be a guy bsuting ass on a construction site and some guys come in and need you to put some ceremonial dirt in a clean people for 7 or 8 people holding golden shovels....well, I am sure you can figure it out.

One day, Western civilization, which has done so much and come so far, will realize that ceremonial groundbreakings where rich men in suits put on ill-fitting hard hats and turn over a pile of dirt just make everyone look like schmucks.

As one who has spent many hours operating that entry-level excavator, I am curious (not THAT kind of curious): which hand goes where to indicate right- or left-handed shovel use?

Your dominant hand goes on top. Isn't that how you shovel?

Well, it'd be on top when the shovel is pointing up but not pointing down, I think. I don't know; my handedness is all messed up. Righty writer, lefty batter/racqueter/shoveler.

Well, like with many activities, I switch off with both hands

In my mind, your stronger arm belongs closer to the blade- off hand with more leverage at the end of the handle. Usually I have my right hand closer to the blade, right bicept seeming to be dominant, thus also at the bottom of a baseball bat (left handed). Confused?, me too.

BF, I also have logged may miles runnin' the Peurto Rican dump truck, you know, one wheel, two handles, red barrow.

In my early days I once dug down to the footing of the basement wall of our house to waterproof and install new drain tile-by hand, my own blistered hand.

I don't think most people can do it that way. I'm right-handed and I would never think of grabbing a shovel with my left hand doing the "steering".

But you may be correct theoretically. I think I can shoot a hockey puck more forcefully right-handed, but it seems far more natural to me as a righty to shoot left-handed.

Got a 5 ton load of stone delivered on a friday at 3 PM, the guy dumped it mostly in the street, some in parkway. Thats about a $1000 ticket if I am not there when a city inspector comes by, so for the next 48 hours moved it by myself with the shovel and wheel barrel. 36 hours later, I was dead.

I saw video of the Left field Bleachers coming down today. They protected the brick wall and ivy, but the rest is all coming down. I'm sure the new ballpark (90% or more will be new, so I'll call a spade a spade) will be great, and perhaps vastly superior in some ways. But it's still a bit sad to see it coming down. Lots of memories......

But those bleachers only date back to 2006.
