Okay.... I have been listening off and on since Sept. '13 and one of the first thing I noticed about B&B is

- Dan acts like an asshole, All Of The Time.
- Terry Boers? Was he the same Boers I HATED to read in the Sun-Times? Why, yes it was!

Terry grew on me eventually....especially his stories about going to Sportsman's. If he would do that daily he would be bearable.... until I learned that TB is nothing but a Bernstein appeaser. The man has no thoughts and agrees with everything Dan says!


Here are my questions:

Why does Dan treat everyone like shit?
Why does he loathe taking calls? Isn't that the point of talk radio?
Why do you all think Dan always has to be right? Me? I think he has Bill O'Rielly syndrome - be a bully to everyone to cover up some character trait he is ashamed of.

Thanks everyone. A former co-worker turned me on to the Score and while I enjoyed it for a while it started to dawn on me that this station doesn't know what or how to talk about sports entertainingly enough to hold my attention for a full work day.

Sir had an Ask Lawrence segment on last Friday and he and his producer could not understand why people did not Dan. It sounded like he was very well liked among people at the station.

This doesn't seem outlandish to me. I don't get the creepy people here wondering what it's like to be the guy's wife or kid or whatever. He's a radio host doing a heightened character. Just because he's mean to dildo callers doesn't mean he is mean to people he actually likes and respects, and I'd guess his family and coworkers are amongst those, generally. Granted, it's The Score so maybe not all of the talent gets along, but still.

Answering your questions...

Dan treats people like shit as a defense mechanism....it makes him feel superior...all 5'8.5" of him.
The point of talk radio (according to Dan) is to listen to his opinion...there is no other reason.
He grew up in a household of attorney's/ doctors..cliche' cliche' ...this is THE ONLY PLACE he gets to be right.

Still don't understand how you READ Boers but never listened on radio....and writing was his best work...cause he stammers like a drunk baby now.

I've always assumed that TB's stuttering is intentional. It is a way for a guy with no original thoughts and little knowledge about current-day sports to actually occupy more airtime, thus justifying (in his mind, anyway) the huge salary.

It takes more time to say "well, um.......yeah........you know......if you think that team is playing good football, then, ah.....yeah.......I mean......ah......good luck with that" than to say "that team is not very good".

Like I said, I never had an interest in sports radio because I had no interest in listening to talk about baseball/basketball/college (and for a good number of years pro) football.

Had my mom in the car when he called a caller a "bitch" and she asked me to PTFB (not her words, mine). It is challenging to grow up in a household where your words are parsed by your parents but theirs are misunderstood or misinterpreted. Where questions are asked the answers to which can be twisted, where you are invoked to answer what should be left unanswered. Where your opinions are sought--sometimes demanded--and then dissected to be discarded. Asking someone "why" as the prelude to trash them by whatever avenue is available.

In 1992, had the Score started out with a host like Bernstein it would have died in a matter of months. When he started he was both intelligent and amusing with a passion for sports and talking. He allowed for others to express an opinion, he kept it light even in disagreement, he could find enjoyment in the games and he seemed to want to grow his brand. Today, he sees what he wants to see (with the rest being unimportant). He's right 98% of the time, even when he changes sides of the argument/position.

We complain about the plethora of idiot callers but the tricks the station uses, along with having a helper monkey of a co-host to chime in and distract, can me make many sound unintelligent or grow frustrated, and because the caller can rarely get the last word (heard) it is a fallback that Bernstein can go to as a final option. He can call you names but if you call him one you get dumped. Our "City of Fools" has been one to call in, make cogent points, and instead of responding they will sometimes just go quiet, thank him, and pretend like he never called. Then its off to a commercial break to drown any echoes resonating.

Today's Terry reminds me of someone who used to be a target of theirs, John Madden. Madden went from being a Super Bowl winning to coach to a broadcaster who made simplistic grunts, noises, and analysis. A product pitchman who traveled around in his own bus and enjoying a fanbase that adored him. Boers has gone from newspaperman to stuttering bumbling parrot, collecting a handsome check while performing his work from his basement while wearing track suit.

I will agree that similar to M&H, the ratings B&B pull are from the timeslot. I don't detest the show, but being that his confrontations are not genuine and now have become forced and 'planted', it's not a good listen anymore. I usually turn off the radio when danny starts playing the intellectually superior role on a caller.

Yes, I do think Matty brings the dumb calls to attention of Danny.

I used to enjoy the shot greatly. My twins are 10 and they would say 'dad, put on the funny guys'. Now every show devolves into some Dan rant which is usually about gay marriage, domestic violence, CTE or his disdain of anything Christian. Clearly, Dan is both an accomplished lawyer and physician.

I think it changed with Goff leaving. He would call Bernstein an idiot regularly. His 'drops' were hysterical and the characters - Rusty from Stickney, etc were funny. Now, we have Abbatacola who is clearly trying to be Bernstein 2.0 and the characters are a sad drunk in Milwaukee and a man who clearly has some sort of handicap (Bob).

What really gets me is Dan and Terry's hate. They simply hate everyone. I was surprised at the glowing praise they gave to Paul Konerko. The only other people I've heard Dan speak positively about are some random far lefty author from Deadspin, Slate or Salon. We can probably make a very long list of people he hates - many irrationally (i.e., Tebow) but a very short list of people he likes. That 'like' column will be with people who think exactly like he does. Terry will just agree with Dan and call everyone a 'penis' in that 'lost my breath' voice thing he does.

Do you all really think Dan will only allow callers who either parrot their point of view or who are dumb? When someone asks about why don't the Bears do this or that Dan forces them to explain the exact type of play they should use. The caller is trying to engage in conversation but Dan engages is who's right/who's wrong.

This I will never understand. Along with why we still listen...
