The "educated/intelligent racist kind". Much worse than the "uneducated/dumb ass kind". More dangerous. Goff never realized this. He always thought the enemy was Mike North and his kind when, in actuality, it was his idol, Dan Bernstein and his kind.

Laugh it up, Doc. If you were black or Jason Goff, you wouldn't.

Doc:

West Side Mike: Shit, this cracker is right. Just realized it. Bernstein is a hot garbage racist!!!!

Hot garbage really is disgusting and smelly.

Plus, it can lead to maggots.

That dude had a damn good point that got lost when he got all mad at Bernstein for Bernsteining him.
A couple thoughts:
1. It seems his initial point was that Rose should be applauded for saying that he's trying to read more. And I agree. Dan was just 40 minutes ago telling us about how reading a book turns on him mind or whatever drivel he was ejaculating out. But the caller was right. Don't be like Billy Madison and make fun of a guy for trying to read.

2. I love how when the conversation evolves and Dan is actually wrong, he goes with one or two standard responses to deflect from his wrongness... either you say "why do you care?" or "Why are you defending him?". In this case the caller had a good reason to defend him.

3. Bernstein hates when people use the term "Haters" but he went and called that cat a "Fanboy" which is THE EXACT SAME THING IN REVERSE POLARITY! Who are your CRAPPIN?
I think you're stretching it a bit on point 1. It is kind of funny to put out to the public that your new hobby is reading. Then follow that with you've never finished a book. That's prime fodder for B&B and is not the same as mocking him for trying to read more.
I completely agree with your 3rd point however.

The guy today may not have done it well but he was spot on. So Derrick is trying to read books but has not finished one. Maybe he got into a Tom Clancy or Ernest Hemingway first that he was like fuck this. Then got into something else or kept trying to find his interest? Dan actually said to the caller what doesn't interest you that you don't finish, Dr. Suess? Holy Shit!

I try to read through all books I pick up. But on occasion there are some I don't finish or just skim through until the end. That was the case with a Stephen King book I read recently. King is an excellent story teller but "Firestarter" is not his best. The first 100 pages of his JFK book were a bit dull, too. I put that one down and have not picked it up again.

So it's not just superstar NBA players that don't finish books. We all do, I would say.

while that is most certainly true, it also completely misses the point.

Didnt hear the call....or maybe I did and tuned it out, but a Tony from Matteson has called many times.

This was Tony from Wilmette. He get a little bit angry, but he definitely didn't disgrace New Trier in this battle vs. Deerfield.

My travels in CTE promotion took me to Elgin last weekend. It was still early in the morning with the sun on the horizon. The home team side of the field was on the sunny side of the field. The away team was in the shade just in front of an acre sized compost field. The compost was steaming, so I suppose they thought they were being good hosts letting their guests be near the warmth.

Tony lives in Wilmette but he's not from there. He apparently moved to better but in the B&B world your current geographic location defines with you and you are no longer connected with your past (with very limited exception).

I'm not sure if he 'hate's black people. On the contrary, he's like one of those typical north shore kids (and yes, they all went to New Trier or Stevenson or Deerfield) who try to 'adopt' the black culture to prove how cool they and/or to rebel against the lame vanilla suburban upbringing (see Anne Hathoway and her boobies in the movie 'Havoc'). We all knew those kids.

Notice, Dan's discussion of hip hop and how he's super cool because he knows who Rakim, Terminator X and KRS-One are. I really thing Dan is trying soooo hard to be part of this bizarre liberal inclusion philosophy - that is, bizarre 'inclusion' of black folks, gay folks, etc - but at the same time, harboring a similarly bizarre hatred of the traditional 'majority' folks - Southerners, Christians, etc.

Dan's problem is that he paints with a broad brush - in both directions. ALL Southerners are racist because he met a couple of racists at Duke. ALL Christians want to kill gays. But at the same time, ALL black people are wonderful. ALL gay people are super. He refuses to see people as individuals and puts them into groups. He is guilty of the very thing he rails on weekly. His 'racism' isn't the Stormfront variety, but rather the 'subtle racism of low expectations'. It's obvious in his behavior. Specifically, about how he'll quickly criticize a white caller for his no-nos ('Jefferies', 'we'), but will not correct or criticize a black caller. Why not treat ALL people equally Dan?

As for Christians, his hatred of them is bizarre and frankly, I'm surprised that the powers that be allow that to be such a common topic on a sports show. Yes, many athletes are Christian. The reality is that those Christian athletes are probably doing more good for the world than Dan Bernstein every will and that stabs his ego. For all of his, 'hey look at me and my charity, aren't I wonderful' - a guy like Tim Tebow is doing more to make the world a better place than Dan will ever do. I'm sure Dan would say 'I use my pulpit to promote my noble cause'. No Dan, you use your pulpit to promote yourself. Many, many athletes - many of them Christian - have wonderful charities that do wonderful things, but don't cross over into that 'promoting the charitable GUY versus promoting the charity itself' thing. Peanut Tillman is a good example.

Yes, I get it. Some Christians are hypocrites. But you know what, many PEOPLE are hypocrites - Christian, Jew, Atheist or otherwise. Again, it's Dan painting with a broad brush. Dan despises their 'hypocrisy', yet he's one of the biggest hypocrites I've ever heard. Dan rails against them for being 'intolerant' and 'judgmental', yet he's easily the most intolerant person of anyone who disagrees with his 'settled' opinions that I've ever heard. He is EXACTLY what he claims to despise.

I'm not a Christian and have no dog in the hunt, but like most people, my daily life is filled with many Christians (and many Atheists and many Hindus based on my profession). I'd happily take a world full of Christians versus a world full of Dan Bernsteins any day.

I don't think that Dan hates Catholics.

I do believe that he has little understanding of them and gets his info strictly from the media.

I think he is too frightened to verbalize the thought that he thinks all theism is foolish and unenlightened. The pushback would hit too close to home.

Agreed

So he gets his "religion is stupid" in by just changing to "Catholics are stupid"

There was one transition during Mac's rehab stint where Dan was ranting about some Christian thing and Larry pointed out that Dan celebrates all the big Jewish holidays and he got all stammery about it. I'm sure we talked about it more clearly when it happened.

Precisely - he's as hypocrite.

Funny though. I wonder where Drinky stands on all of it. My co-worker is a Christian guy and Abbatacola's brother is a youth pastor at his church.

Abbatacola was in seminary school at one point, wasn't he? I think he's dropped some fairly in-depth biblical knowledge on B&B (mostly Dan) before.

Yeah. One time drinky tried to buck up to Dan over religion. Dan was mocking religious people saying how stupid they are to worship a God based on a book of fairy tales.

Drinky tried to defend his kind, he got shot down, he got intimidated and kind of stormed away in a pissy mood. This was a few years ago. After that, I've never heard drinky go after Bernstein anymore about religion.
