It's getting a lot of hype. I like Keaton and I'm looking forward to seeing this.

I'll go with Inherent Vice even though I won't see it until 2016.

Yeah. In the spirit of RPB's "Most anticipated album" thread,
I can say that ever since Boogie Nights, every PT Anderson movie since
has had me counting down the days til it hit theaters.
I know nothing about Pynchon, or this story, but I *do* know Inherent Vice is going to be tits.

pynchon's a satirist, and a goofy looking guy...also a recluse. the simpsons have parodied him before. i remember reading a critique of joseph heller's sequel to "catch-22" called "closing time" from the NY times. the writer kept comparing the two writers, but i think he was just trying to show off his intellectual elitism...although the review for "closing time" was rather favorable.

big Michael Keaton fan

He was a great comedic actor in the 80s and early 90s. He then became a pretty good serious actor. Then he just sort of disappeared.

They just had a profile of him on CBS Sunday Morning this past weekend. Very interesting. I didn't
realize he is almost in his mid 60s now.

Yes, and I just found out from the article that RPB posted, that he played the same character in Out of Sight.

He also had a role as a rustic in one of those Shakespearean plays adapted for the big screen by Kenneth Branaugh

People bitch about guys like DeNiro and Pacino mailing it in, well Keaton is the alternative. He's never done anything he didnt want to do for money (although Herbie might be the one moneygrab)

He chose art over money.

Just saw an interview with Galifianakas and a clip of the movie.

I'm really looking forward to this. And RBP is spot on with his Keaton analysis.

Here's Keaton's next film. Hell of a cast: Schrieber, Tucci, Ruffalo, Slattery, Crudup, Rachael McAdams

Spotlight. The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core.

Much Ado About Nothing--that was really good actually. Keaton stole the show. Am I misremembering but isn't he known to be a legendary asshole? I thought he was blackballed for that. Like a Hale Irwin-level asshole.

he stopped being a box office draw. that is what ends your career. not being an asshole. no one in hollywood would get hired if that were the case. even val kilmer, who was known to be the most difficult actor to work with at his height of popularity, didn't lose out until he wasn't bringing in box office numbers anymore.

Jack Butler: [Enters scene revving chainsaw] How ya doin'. You must be Ron Richardson. I'm Jack Butler, nice to meetcha.

Ron Richardson: Pleased to meet you.

Jack Butler: Huh?

Ron Richardson: I say I'm pleased...

[Jack Turns chainsaw off]

Ron Richardson: ...to meet you. I'm just waiting for Caroline.

Jack Butler: Well, uh, you know women.

Ron Richardson: Yeah, I'd like to think I do.

Jack Butler: Wanna beer?

Ron Richardson: It's 7 o'clock in the morning.

Jack Butler: Scotch?

Ron Richardson: Not during working hours. Ooooh, sorry pal.

Jack Butler: No problem. Come on over here Ron. Let me show you what I'm doing, taking advantage of some of the time off. To, uh, add a whole new wing on here. Gonna rip these walls out and, uh, of course re-wire it.

Ron Richardson: Yeah, you gonna make it all 220?

Jack Butler: Yeah, 220, 221. Whatever it takes.

It's either Birdman or Fury today. It's a tough decision.

EDIT: look's like Fury since Birdman isn't playing anywhere except the Loop.

Right and he wasnt willing to sacrifice dignity to try and stay a leading man by taking ANY role a la DeNiro, Sam Jackson, etc

Why would anyone rewire to 220? That makes almost no sense at all unless you're putting an electric dryer and Stove in the living room.
