Agreed. The flu killed ~53,000 last year. So far Ebola is at one. So yeah, no need to hunker down just yet.

Also those things listed are already being fought with legislation and take decades to kill you.

Well lets hope legislation making Ebola illegal gets passed soon!

If the CDC (or, say, the Mayo Clinic) asked for 15 minutes of TV time that the big 4, PBS, and Univision (et al) would broadcast this coming Sunday night, how many people would actually take time to watch it attentively, and then how many of that fraction of people would only be watching it simply to critique it, whether for content or production values?

A society (of which I'm not suggesting I'm not a part of, I might add) generally built on blithe disinterest in personal responsibility or discussion of topics such as infrastructure and public health considerations is only going to have their attention caught by such a coarse cartoon. Seems to me it falls nicely under the category 'know your audience'.

The thing is if SOMEBODY isn't worried about Ebola, it will wipe out the entire human race except for those with freakish immunity.

I'm not one of those people that buy into the media hyped worry of everything from bad weather to colds but this is something that WILL kill if not monitored. It won't just take care of itself if we just stay ignorant. That already didn't work.

equating it with obesity sure seems to indicate that

The point is you have a greater chance of dying from obesity than you do from Ebola. There is no reason to be afraid of Ebola in America. It is extremely hard to catch. If it were to become an airborne virus then it would be time to panic.

Ebola would be an excellent cure for obesity.

you know what has me worried at the moment? The cost of college. I have a LONG way to go until that arises but hell if it doesn't look like I'm going to have to cover upwards of 200K

That's another thing that sucks about this state, we have one good school and even that is expensive for in state. I look at Virginia and those gap toothed yokels have at least two and more TOP schools with very reasonable price tags and several other acceptable schools for the price.

I can't believe this nurse, who was handling the waste of the Ebola patient, would even consider getting on a plane. Forget that fact that she should have been told not to travel.

On here own, she should have had some concern - if not for the passengers on the plane - but for her family members that she was visiting.

Unbelievable that a NURSE would not error on the side of caution.

Obviously one can interpret it that way, but I think you have to do quite a bit of unjustified inferring to even begin to arrive at that supposition.

Maybe the Ebola experience drove her to hate people and this was her way of expressing it.

I'm sure you were worried about that however many years ago your oldest was born. That's not a life or death worry. That's on the list of reasons you get up and work every day.

but that simply not true. As I said, if we do not have the requisite amount of concern, it wipes us all out.

Obesity and the others are more a character flaw and shouldn't even be in the discussion

Did she have unprotected sex with anyone? Did she shit or vomit on anyone? If none of these things happened it's not that big of a deal. She should have known better but it's unlikely any of those passengers will have Ebola.

did she use the bathroom without washing her hands, as some disgustingly high percentage of people do?

Stop playing doctor, Nas.

Isn't that what we all are doing? We're taking the information provided by the experts and applying it to every case. That's why some of us aren't worried that Ebola will take our lives tomorrow.

I'm sure she kissed and/or hugged her family members. Maybe she was coughing or sneezing. She was reckless and put people in danger. Hell, she was in protective gear around an Ebola patient and got it.
