I have no idea idea why most parents send their kids to catholic schools....essentially what they want is exactly what the public school does minus the "problem" kids.

Kinda seems like we want poor people to work their way out of poverty but we dont want to give them any tools to do so

Giving them more money wont improve truancy & the lousy graduation rates. The problems are deep & throwing money at it will be a waste.

No they do not.

That curriculum is called Common Core.

The Catholic schools in your Diocese have also adopted it.

They do not, but try to. Catholic schools would take ISATs if state allowed it. Instead Terra Nova is used and this year 8th Grade will take the Aspire test.

Do you teach in Chicago or in the Joliet Diocese Conns?

Our kids take those Terra Nova exams. I have never seen a more confusing grading output. I even went to the website one year to figure out what the results meant. I still don't quite get it.

Everyone is supposed to moving toward it. Some do more than others right now. Since the IL textbook loan ceased to exist a few years back it is harder for schools to buy new books.

Yes. I think my mom still has my high school ones. Way better in your head than in real life. It was an all girls school which allowed us to be sloppy.

Yeah. I was in Catholic school K-8th.

Maroon/white plaid skirts, white button down shirt and matching maroon/white plaid vest for the girls. Maroon sweaters in the winter. Oh boy!!!! Not very sexy. Though we had this one girl that wore it well. Her skirt was shorter than the other girls. Her mom was a slut and probably encouraged it. She also developed quicker than the other girls. So I'll always remember her. Not cuz of the Catholic girl outfit. Just cuz she was hot. But she would have been hot in public school in regular clothes. So the outfit doesn't matter.

I was talking high school, and the contest to wear the shortest skirt and lowest buttoned blouse got me thru puberty. Maybe my school was a home for wayward girls. Whatever the case, God bless and thank you. So the Catholic school girl outfit? Yeah, that's a thing. Excuse me. WAS a thing. I'm a happily married middle aged man.
